Heading to VT this weekend? Other than Alchemist and HF, which ones are a must and which ones are not worth the time? TY
You might not get any Heady if you are coming on Saturday. Be sure to be there at opening. Also I suggest Fiddlehead, Lost Nation, Zero Gravity.
I think, and that is only a think, is to get Heady, its Tues/Wed, but call ahead to see if they have any to sell. Besides the big names, the one other beer I have had from Vermont was from Switchback.
Nope, Heady can be had other days. Thursday midday has seemed like a sure bet since they dropped the case limit. Saturday, wouldn't bank on it. They announce sell outs on twitter.
And I've enjoyed the stuff I've tried from Lost Nation. I'm not a huge lager guy and haven't tried tons of the style, but the Trapp Dunkel was pretty damn tasty when I had it the other night.
Heady is pretty easy to get if you hit it in the mornings.... With the increase in production, and the more recent drop in case limit, I seem to be able to grab them anytime I am in the area (which is often). Definitely hit up Lost Nation - - For great beer, and great food. It has quickly become a favorite roadtrip spot for me for a quick lunch and a Gose. Hill Farmstead is obviously a must, but make sure you get there early to prevent yourself from missing out on the rest of the day. While you're there, grab a pint at Parker Pie in West Glover, VT. Fiddlehead, with decent beer, is a pretty great spot with a delicious brick oven pizzeria attached to it. Zero Gravity (Flatbread Burlington) has really started putting out some great beers. Check them out for some good wood fired pizza and tasty beers on the patio. Check out all of the bars in the Waterbury/Burlington areas, they are loaded with spectacular offerings. Explore, have fun, and enjoy the beauty.
http://www.vermontbrewers.com/ the passport program shows a good variety. Heady has been available Saturday mornings, lost nation is great, rock art makes you pay for samples but some like it, the crop does some decent beers. and dont forget to go to a store, we got crooked stave pretty easily last time we were there. You will also be able to buy Grateful hands beer, just make room for all the beer you can bring back, we are tripping over our extra boxes at the moment.
I would assume they sell out today given the foliage season. They sold out mid-afternoon last Friday. Follow on Twitter to keep up to date. Fiddleheads is small and limited in variety. Trapp is worth a visit for the views and the lagers. Zero Gravity is good. VT Pub and Brewery does not produce the best beers but it's a VT mainstay. Magic Hat will give you a "brewery experience" if that's what you are looking for ... I couldn't tell from the post. You know their beers. Enjoy the trip.
I've given friends recommendations to hit the Alchemist and they've ended up getting shitfaced at Magic Hat and filling their cars with #9 and circus boy (memo to delete them from facebook later....) Best bets - follow this link. http://www.vtbeer.org/2013/06/19/vermonts-ipa-highway/ Not everything in the state is represented but this guide is as good as any for most of what you'll want. Keep an eye out for Backacre Sour Golden Ale if you find yourself more off the beaten path in the southern part of the state.
Lost nation is a great little pitstop on the way to or from greensboro via the 15. Prices are beyond reasonable and its a nice place to grab a quick bite as well.
