I was able to acquire 1 bottle of W00tStout in NYC last week and smuggled it home... Now for the dilemma. I haven't even had an opportunity to try it fresh, but everything I hear is how amazing it will age... Should I cellar it or just dive right in?

Nobody knows how it will age. All that can be said is that aging will change the beer, but there is no guarantee that age will improve it. And definitely no guarantee that you personally will enjoy it more aged than fresh. Seriously. Drink it now.

The answer is (almost) always, drink it now.

And I'll just voice that I'm not at all sure this will age well. And it's delicious right now.

I apparently liked it about 25% less than your typical BA and mainly for the reason that it drank way too hot. Take that fwiw. I think you did well to only buy one.

Drink it! It has slight heat but in a good way all 13% stouts should.

Were there bad bottles of W00tStout to anyone's knowledge? I had it a couple weeks back and didn't enjoy very much at all. The pecan flavor was overly sweet and the rye flavor that followed gave off a really strong and weird aftertaste. Let me know if possible, as I'm now wondering if I should give it another try.

I would say drink it and see. It's not hard to get, at least around me, and if you need more, trading for it will not be hard. Also, I didn't think it was hot when I had it last weekend.

I hated this beer. Aging it might help, but I would be surprised -- in particular, the pecans might make it worse over time.

I've had one and really enjoyed it! I'm going to let the other 3 age, but now to your question. If I only had one, I'd drink not now. It's a very good beer! Enjoy!

Drink it now. Can always trade for another later very easily.

A good rule of thumb, enjoy your evening and drink a beer: If there's something in the cellar you've been waiting to try exchange that for the Woot if not set it back and wait for a special occasion (birthday, visit from friends, anny, solstice...). Any special occasion will do!! Try to find another special bottle to age and run a constant exchange. It sounds tough (probably more so in HI) but after a few years you can have a constant flow. Grab of case of corked and caged Chimay Blue.

I didn't enjoy Wootstout when I tasted it & aging won't make it any better IMO.

I agree...just make sure not to drink it too cold...this brew really comes together at slightly above room temp. Boozy....yes...granted I believe it is the biggest brew Stone has ever brewed. It is, what it is...

To me it tasted like a weird quad. Wasn't impressed with this one. I'd say do whatever with it.
