so I have a garage fridge set to 44 degrees. Highest setting. My buddy has an extra temp controller that he is taking awhile to send to me. Could be a week or a month before I get it idk. So my question is, should I keep my beer at a controlled 73 degrees in my closet or put it in the 44 degree fridge now even tho it will have to undergo another temp change soon to 55 degrees( two temp changes vs one). What do yall think?

If you have any IPAs or beers that you want to age more slowly (and don't include brett/wild yeast strains), go ahead and toss those in the fridge. Otherwise I'd unplug the fridge, save some energy, and then have extra room to work when installing the new temp controller.

It's all about gradual temp changes. No reason to be aging IPAs anyway, so keep those cellarables at room temp for the next few weeks/months, and transfer them when you can. You're not going to shock a massive stout or barleywine with that change.
