When I hear Belgian style I think wheaty, witbier, white ales. Not my style. But I tried a Kane Solitude Belgian Strong Dark Ale. Wow, blew me away. Will also have to check out Quads, Dubbels, Tripels, etc.. I think I've found my Belgian style.

Belgian Quads and Strong dark ales are the heavenly. Stuff like Hoegaarden and palm scare people away from the real stuff.

Good for you. Belgian ales are some of the most complex and interesting beers in the world.

For another Belgian Strong Dark Ale that's not pricey, try Trois Pistoles from Unibroue. It's an excellent beer.

You've been a member here since '07 and have never tried real Belgian beers?

Maybe it's just me, but when I think of wheaty beers, I think German (Hefes, etc.)

There is no singular "Belgian Style" beer any more than there is an "American Style" beer. There are many styles of beer brewed in Belgium, and many beers brewed around the world that are influenced by Belgian beers.
