Walla walla is not the best beer destination (seems to me there might be some other beverage that's more highly revered in the area), but it's probably better now than it ever has been. Breweries that I would recommend include Burwood, Crossbuck and Dragon's Gate (the latter is actually in Milton Freewater). My pick for best beer store would be The Thief wine and beer store. I'm not sure you're going to find much there that you can't get in Boise, but the selection is at least decent. If you want a place with a decent taplist, I would recommend places like Green Lantern and the Red Monkey. Again, don't expect a mind blowing selection, but it's at least decent with typically several local offerings on tap. Good luck!
Sorry man... Didn't see this. The wife and I went up there to "get out of the smoke" about a month ago and landed in a lot more smoke. Beer scene is pretty behind the times as far as modern brewing trends go. Quark was the the lone star. The one downtown was pretty garbage. The downtown French restaurant was awesome, get the pork rillettes and anything that is duck. Freewater Cider in Milton Freewater is the best cider I have ever had... and I am approaching 1000 different ciders at this point. 4x single varietals all aged on the skins and in barrels and 2x other long term barrel projects. Honestly the highlight of a lackluster trip. Edit... Oh.. And there is a little Hispanic type bodega near Freewater Cider, probably a half mile away back toward WW, and they had hands down the best bottle selection. Apparently the guy is a big beer guy. I need to figure it out and give them a proper review.
