Next Saturday, 4/23. Here's a cut n paste from the FB post announcing it: Come celebrate Wander Brewing's 2nd Anniversary on Saturday, April 23rd! The 2016 bourbon barrel-aged Emissary will be released at 1pm and we will be tapping special kegs of your favorite beers from our cellar all day. Multiple food trucks on the patio and live music starting at 5pm! If you've been looking for an excuse to visit Bham, here it is. Plus, you can hit some of the other new places in town (Structures, Stones Throw).
I'm a huge fan of Structures, their beer is top quality but it's not the best place to hang out for a few beers as seating and space is super limited. My 2nd fav is Wander as they do some good beer and is better suited to sit around and hang out vs Structures. @beertunes do you know if Stones Throw would allow smoking outside? I'm assuming not, but I'm a cigar smoker and always looking for a place to enjoy a cigar. Sadly, my deck is basically the only spot in town. lol (edit: I'm a respectful smoker and would not even want to smoke a cigar at Stones Throw if other customers are there and I would be close to them... just wondering if there is a far corner in the backyard where I could maybe get away with it?)
I don't know for sure, but I suspect not, if only because of the smoking law. Since even their driveway is part of one of their seating areas, and there is no smoking in bars so.... I know the Up&Up allows smoking in their outdoor seating area, as does the Copper Hog, and IMHO, they slide by because the health department enforces the smoking ban, and they're not known for working after 5. BTW, Up&Up is one of my "secret" spots. They've always got some interesting stuff on tap, and you can find some surprise bottles there, for either on-site or to go, for decent prices. A buddy and I split a bottle of B-Bomb a few weeks ago, and the price was the same as retail at the Co-Op.
If you have the Faceybooks, you may gaze upon these lovelies that will be released on Saturday: https://www.facebook.com/WanderBrewing/?fref=ts @jhavs , one has your name on it!
Really intrigued by the reviews coming for Wander beers ... and the GABF awards. Which would you say are worth seeking in trade? So far BA Global Mutt, Sauraha, BA Farmhouse all sound excellent. Thoughts? Low limits on any / all of these?
Nothing to see here, move along, no looky-loos. All of them are worth seeking out. There is generally a limit on the limited stuff; BA beers, sours, wilds and the limit is generally 3 pp/pd. They released a sour a couple months ago that's probably gone by now, Sauhara, that was fantastic, and last summer, I couldn't stuff enough Raspberry Millie in my mouth. Shoe Toss, Global Mutt, and the non-BA stout are usually available at the brewery, or at least around town. Some distro too, @woemad see's the regular stuff over in Spoklahoma.
Don't worry; I think it'll be a long while (a la never) before you see a bunch of posts ISO wander. ;-)
Hey, @beertunes, does Wander bottle in any other format than the big, magnum type bottles I've seen thus far? Just curious.
They posted pics on FB a few days ago of their new 12oz bottling unit. They seem to have a habit of getting right after things, so I'd expect to see those before too long, at least on this side of Cascadia.
Any word on which beers will go into the smaller bottles? I'm guessing Shoe Toss will be one, but curious about their vision.
I'll certainly ask, but my assumption is Shoe Toss and Global Mutt (I will drink more GM with 12oz bottles), and, knowing that Correspondent Stout (the base beer for BA Emissary) is Chad's baby, I would be surprised if that wasn't packaged too. Maybe some of the seasonals? I have to work the Rollerderby Saturday night, so won't be able to have tooo muchfun at the party, but I'll get back to you on this.
Both Global Mutt and Correspondent would be excellent in 12oz format, that's great to hear they're both possibilities.
Speaking of this, the Bellingham team Tough Love is skating against @woemad 's home team, The Spokannibals. I wonder if a little wager is in order? http://www.bellinghamrollerbetties.com/
At Wander now, and there's no definite plan as to what's going into 12's as yet. but the bar manager thinks that the Millie series of fruit beers, and fruit Puncheon brews are likely good bets. More info when I get it.
Good news/Bad news on the bottles. Good news is Global Mutt and Shoe toss will be going into the smaller bottles, along with the Millie series of fruit beers. Bad news is that the format is the 500ml bottle, so no sixers. Had a fun time at the party yesterday, they tapped a different keg at the top of each hour. I had a Raspberry version of their new Kolsch from a firkin, a 2015 barrel-aged Global Mutt, a 2016 Emissary, and 2 glasses of the last keg of the 2015 GABF Gold medal winning Wild Warehouse. They also spread out various vintage bottles, some of which were the last bottles of the beers. On a sad note though, there was no cake. They were pretty busy during the time I was there, and they seemed to be moving bottles pretty quickly. I dropped a hundo on bottles, and none of those beers will be staying with me. Overall, a nice, beery afternoon was had.
