GLBC & Cigar City To Release Wandering Pelican
    Posted May 7, 2014

We are excited to announce release details for our half of the two-beer collaboration between Great Lakes Brewing Company and Cigar City Brewing.

Wandering Pelican Black Lager will be released on Tuesday, May 20 in the GLBC Brewpub and Gift Shop.

A limited number of screenprinted 22 oz. bottles will be sold exclusively in the GLBC Gift Shop, starting at 10AM. Our Brewpub bar will open at 10AM on May 20 so guests can try Wandering Pelican Black Lager and our other beers on tap.

Soon after our Gift Shop and Brewpub release, a limited amount of Wandering Pelican Black Lager (draft only) will be released in GLBC's distribution markets.

Cigar City Brewing will release Wandering Pelican Black Ale in cans and draft throughout their distribution footprint. For more information on their half of the collaboration, visit cigarcitybrewing.com

The Wandering Pelican StoryThe name Wandering Pelican pays homage to a Brown Pelican who made the journey from Florida to Ohio's Lake Erie Coast during the summer of 2013. Swapping saltwater for fresh, feeding on shad instead of mullet, this welcome stranger made Lake Erie his home for several months and became an unlikely local celebrity. Both beers will honor our courageous friend who wandered off the beaten path to find his home.

I'm sure it will be good, and I'm jealous that you Southern folks are getting this distributed.

Yeah I understand that completely. I haven't had many lagers that excite me, but if someone can pull it off it's these guys. Doesn't help that CCB's Black Ash wasn't anything to write home about.
On a slightly related note...Dan'l Webster is freaking delicious.

Webster is also a style of beer both breweries are fairly good at making.

You aren't kiddin...knew I would like it when I read about the beer. All these OH collabs have a special place in my heart though due to growing up there, so I definitely am glad this Pelican will be distrod even if it's not a homerun.
Honestly I'm waiting for the surprise Fat Head collab revelation more than anything. One can dream...

Haven't had this yet, but the CCB/Jdubs collaboration Kettle Monster is a hoppy black lager and I really enjoyed it (and I most often dislike black IPAs) so hopefully this is similar.

How come the press release said "black lager" but my cans say "black ale"?

Well the bottles released in OH say lager on them:

I'd really love to get a bottle to compare it to the can.

According to the video the OH brewed one is lager, and the FL brewed one is an ale.
