What would be awesome is if mods could give the option to edit a trade offer. For example, I listed 50 something beers as options and simply mentioned that I was going to Schramm's and would also have mead. Deleted for "no mead trading". Well, jeez; I gave 50 beer options and just thought it was a friendly gesture to add that on at the end. By no means was I trying to be "criminal" ... I was trying to be ... you know, nice? I didn't realize mead was such intense contraband!

(Queue the feedback that I have poor reading comprehension and didn't follow the rules like a naughty 5 year old.)

Anyway, bouncing that back with the feedback to remove mead would be an awesome / friendly moderation feature.

We certainly can...but it requires you to ask.

We haven't got time to go through and find/edit at will. When someone reports a thread, we respond and try to resolve the issue...some people don't mind/like the idea of having their posts edited...others not so much as you may imagine.

Asking us to intuit your preference (through the Force of course) and act accordingly might be giving us *just* a bit too much power. :grimacing:

I didn't ask anyone to intuit my preference. I suppose I wasn't clear. "Give the option to edit" meant "give the poster" the option to edit.

I know this isn't the forum for "feature requests" but my thinking was that posts could be sent back into a state where they weren't live, but were editable. Something like "please edit and remove meads" or "be more precise about ratio" as a comment with the option for the next 24 hours to do so. Perhaps that's beyond the technology of this forum, but it's more feasible than expecting moderators to develop telepathy!

If only it were that easy!

You do have a time frame to edit...but it's relatively short and unless you realize yourself that you made a mistake, chances that someone sees it and reports it and we handle the report in that time frame is minimal.

Todd has messed around with changing that time frame but it's linked to other site features and I don't believe that there's currently a way for us to send it back to you into a *draft* state for editing and later *approval* (at least I don't think so) without having every post reviewed and approved (which we certainly don't have the manpower or desire to do).

The way it would currently work would be that we would delete it, tag you with a notification and then you'd have to see it, BM one of us with the desired change, we would have to make the change and then undelete it.

That assumes you see it and send a BM to the mod who deleted it and then he/she sees it and makes the changes etc. Otherwise, someone has to search through deleted posts to find it.

It's unwieldy to say the least, but that's the only set of tools we have now. :flushed:

Having partial feedback doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Wouldn't it work better if nobody could see posted feedback until both parties have left it? This would prevent retaliatory feedback all together.

Retaliatory feedback will result in instaban. But your idea does make a lot of sense.

This was originally considered. I forget why it wasn't implemented, but if it ever were the ability to edit after the feedback is locked in would need to be removed.

As far as FAQ- I'm new to trading and always wonder about how many (or the value) of "extras" to send if you do agree to send extras. Should it be that you send half again the amount of beers that were agreed upon? Is there a rule of thumb here?

( I guess this really isn't FAQ but more soliciting best practices.)

Extras are just that extra. no one should ever expect extras. it is just a nice way to fill a box or expose people to the local gems you love.
