I know some for some of us, it took us a bit to become hopheads or appreciate the "darkness". But for which of you did it take some time to like/tolerate "beer" beer (aka American Adjunct Lagers, Light Lagers, etc.) First time I had a "regular" beer (Coors Light), I effin hated it (I actually chased it with orange juice. No lie), and was on a quest to find better (great) beer, cuz I knew it had to be out there. Now, Coors Light isn't offensive to me, (it's just offensively bland). So what's your story?

I tried my first beer (bud light) and hated it. I slowly tried it again and began to stand it. I then went on to kinda like it. I then found more kinds, still they were the major bev beers. Then I got into guinness, which helped launch me into discovering more foriegn beers. For some reason I loved trying things that were foreign. I discovered so many beers that I remember tasting for the first time and not really likeing (now loving). After I started discovering how to brew my own beer I have recently become very interested in mainly North American craft beer. Now when I go to a craft beer store I mainly pick up what I like that's foriegn and then try to pick out something I like and something new that's a north american craft brew. Keep in mind this story takes place over years

Coors Light and Hop Heads shouldn't be used in the same reference.

"Bad" beer is only consumed on the golf course, but with the proliferation of craft beer in cans, that will be changing this summer.

I know session beers are the new big thing but until I can drink 12 of them camping for 9 bucks there will always be a place for budweiser

I drank macros for years (been drinking beer for 25 years), alongside European lagers. At the time they worked for me. I was young and getting my buzz on was important. If you're 16, hanging out at a train station, smoking Marlboros and making spit puddles, a macro beer fits the billl.

Today, I don't drink macros, unless I'm in a situation, for example, when I visit my father-in-law, who lives on a farm, and he's got a big ice chest filled with Schaefer and Schlitz, well yeah, I dig in and enjoy it for what it is.

Coors Light? I don't like it, but I can see how some do. It's refreshing, clean and always tastes the same. For some, that's what beer means to them, and frankly I don't care what other people dig on. As long as I have access to a plethora of craft brews, I'm golden gary.

    Budweiser? I can enjoy a Coors Light more....but I won't! Lousy beer.

If the situation is right, and my options are simply not there (and I didn't bring along options), I will drink:

    Coors Banquet
    Coors Extra Gold
    Miller High Life
    Michelob Amber
Rolling Rock (if submerged in ice for hours)
    BallantineAle
    Schaefer
    Schiltz
    Genessee Cream

I was in high school first time I started drinking beer. Didnt really like the taste of it but figured that I better learn to like it since thats all they will be serving at college parties. Graduated from drinking Genny light/Busch/Old Milwaukee over to Labatts/Molson/Malt Liquor & Heineken when I could afford it. Post college led me to drinking mostly imports, which I thought was the 'good stuff' (Stella/st pauli girl/Becks). Had a buddy take me to a tasting of Affligem Noel and thats when I realized beer could be so complex & tasty. That sent me out on my quest to try more Belgians and eventually craft beer.

Eh... even bud light wheat has it's time and place. And that time and place was at my buddy's house (who had a ton of it because of where he worked) during a super hot summer night of beer pong in his garage. It being free to him and me didn't hurt either.

My wife's side of the family is Mexican so they drink a shitload of Bud Light, Modelo, Corona, etc. I have gotten used to those beers just by having to drink them everytime we visit.

I was cool with Natty Light for a long time, it was the cheapest beer with the least amount of flavor, perfect! I thought it was pretty tasty right off the bat.

Some cheap tallboys of Old Style come in real handy when it's summer in Chicago...

The only place for Budweiser is on the store shelf gathering dust. Since a number of craft beers are available in cans, maybe it's time to start thinking like an adult and consider quality as being more important than quantity/cheapness.

My journey was opposite to most. I fucking hated beer. I couldn't stand even a sip unless it was a well made michelada just because I like spicy flavors. Of course, all I knew as beer was BMC. Then I tried Chimay blue and it was fucking awesome and started on craft from there on. Then one day I was craving a beer and had none and my roomate had stellas and when I drank it I realized holy shit! Now I can actually drink a full BMC beer because of craft. So now I won't mind a stella/peroni/coors/bud/corona/modelo when there's nothing else available.

I would have to say that the beers you mention are becoming less offensive to me for some reason. In the beginning of my craft beer days, they all tasted like complete swill. Now they are still bad to me but I can tolerate some of them. I haven't bought any of them and probably never will, just a bit more tolerable somehow.

I like drinking american lagers. I drink a lot of Naragansett lager. I don't think they are bad beers either. They serve their purpose just like any other beer does.

I can't do it. I keep trying from time to time to see if it gets any better and it just doesn't happen.
The closest thing I have got to "bad beers" that I will drink when my options are almost none, is Heineken and Corona but they don't really taste like much.

It's definitely helpful to know which of the ubiquitous AALs is least offensive to you, because social settings where nothing else is available are practically unavoidable. But I don't plan on expending any money, time, or calories on exploring the style.

I have always enjoyed beer. Growing up, my dad, and my best friend's dad brewed. We tasted everything, and if they didn't allow us, we snuck into it. However, brewing recipes weren't so widely experimental in the early 80's. As a teen I drank plenty of Bud, Miller,Coors, PBR, and even my fair share of malt liquor from the gas station. It was where we got away with buying beer, or where we found some guy with a mullet and shredded jeans to buy beer for us. Upon 21, I started in with mixing it up, buying imports and what-not(Molson, Heineken, Rolling Rock, loved the shit out of some Honey Brown, and had more than my share of black and tans at the bar.) Mid twenties started really expanding into craft beer, trying new things weekly. Now I want something new constantly, always seeking out those delicious goodies I have never had.

To get to my point, I never disliked AALs as an entirety. I just learned to prefer other beers. With cans becoming a new thing with craft beer, I never have to buy it again to go with me to the beach or hang poolside with beer.
