So, did you agree to the trade and then back out when you saw you could get more value for the bottles involved? You really aren't giving us your side of the story...

Not sure you were involved... Neways I clearly had miscommunication with him and should've worded my message better. He thought i was backing out or trying to send less, all I meant was for clarification on the trade and (as I told him) I would be more than willing to ship the previously discussed trade.

No I didn't back out. I send one message and got an angry 'essay' back. As I've said for the 30th time, I easily would've went through with the trade. Damn people are real quick to jump on condemning other people.

And I'll say it again for apologetic purposes, sorry to anyone who got infuriated of this. Didn't mean to offend the community. I should've been more clear in my message of my intent. Sorry again BA community.

Interesting... I would love to see the "one message" you sent him because @PA-Michigander has an excellent, established rep on this site and I don't think he would jump to conclusions so easily here...

I think all that matters here is @PA-Michigander is happy. He is a stand up guy and sends boxes to people and expects nothing in return, he is a high class BA. I have never seen him call someone out and i tend to believe what he said. But as you said im not involved but i never want to see a guy like him get screwed over.

^^^ This exactly. I just don't believe he would call you out like this unless you said something that really pissed him off...

I never had intentions to screw anyone over. And never have screwed anyone over. And your right, the only thing that matters is that the parties involved are happy, which is why it's handled in one on one messaging. I've never had a bad trade or had someone upset with my trading. Just bizarre to see so many outside people so quick and willing to jump down someone's throat. Especially from a community that's supposed to have such a friendly reputation.

All you keep doing is skirting the issue that was brought up by throwing back criticism at the community for their reaction.

Did you or did you not try to inflate the value of your bottle that was involved in the trade after you agreed upon terms? We give zero fucks about your intentions and apologies after the fact, but IS that what you did?

This is true... but I don't think the other party involved here is happy... otherwise he wouldn't have called you out on this forum... and since he's not happy it becomes everyone elses business.

As some above me have suggested you can clear this up pretty quickly by just posting the message. I'll be one of the first to apologize for wrongly calling you out if it was a miscommunication.

This is a good general discussion to have, since I feel like people renege on pretrades all too often once they figure out their beer is more valuable than expected.

How can it be more valuable? The price didn't change leading up to the release, they most likely knew the amount of bottles being released and they didn't spend the time cellaring it for a couple of years.

People get desperate and throw crazy offers for bottles they want and the pre traders have traders remorse when they see all beers they could have got

The beer value didn't change, the greed of the person getting/holding the beer did.

True but it's hard to put a static value on a beer and all agree this beer is valued at x. we can quote price and bottle counts because those are facts but taste is also a variable as well and completely subjective. What's good to you might not be good to me.

I do agree with you on the greed part though.

it *sounds* like to me like there was some ambiguity in the original trade. as OP says himself:

"I assured him I would make up the difference in bottle rarity and cost."

which is 100% fine a lot of the time, even sometimes with new traders I'll sometimes say "I trust you, just send something cool to make up for xyz".

and then I'm guessing steve423423 got a bit nervous that what OP had in mind would fall short of his expectations based on whatever he saw on the trade boards recently. and probably said something to this affect.

that's just a guess. but if that's the can see why OP got miffed.

but I also think that the original trade was left a bit ambiguous.

bottom line, it just depends on exactly what steve423423 said.
