Don't go to City Tap House, That place sucks. Chuchkey, The Sovereign, Meridian Pint and Smoke and Barrel for beer bars. Craft Beer Cellar for bottles. Right Proper, Bluejacket & 3 Stars for breweries.

I live out in the burbs and do most of my bottle shopping there, so others probably have a better list than i. My bottle shopping in DC is usually limited to P Street Whole Foods and Craft Beer Cellar...if you're anywhere near those two, both worth hitting.

on average i find RFD will have a better beer list than Pizza Paradiso.

No one has mentioned Eat Bar Barracks Row. Small, usually has a great selection. Gets stuff like Prairie, Singlecut, Anchorage, Grimm and Crooked Stave.

Sovereign is hidden down an alley in the heart of Georgetown.

The improvement in the distribution and beer selection at bottle shops in DC, MD and VA in the past year has been remarkable. Alesmith, Wicked Weed, Cascade, 4 Hands, Council, Ninkasi, Modern Times have all entered one or more of those markets here, MD finally got Founders. Probably a lot I am missing. Plus regular stuff from Maine, Cigar City, Jolly Pumpkin, Perennial. And of course the improvement in the local crafts.

Even though literally every other poster mentioned it, I'll throw my hat in for Churchkey. Crushing my first 2 Veil beers with some bone marrow was a life-affirming event for me.

If you're going to compare those two specifically...

It's the (bad) food and (lack of) atmosphere that keeps me away from RFD. And sure, the beer list at RFD is more extensive, but you'll always find something good to go with the great pizza at Paradiso.

I concur. Food and atmosphere at PP blow RFD away.
