Sorry if this gets asked as much as it does in the Pacific forum for San Diego tourists but I tried a number of searches and look ups and couldn't find threads specific to DC bottle shops. I'm staying just outside Dupont Circle (Omni Shoreham) for a conference the rest of this week. Are there any good bottle shops other than the Whole Foods near ChurchKey? Mostly looking for a place with fresh local stuff and not dusty bottles of Bells Two Hearted from last Spring. Thanks for any suggestions.

Whole Foods is the best... Also there's Conneticutt Ave Liquors, next to Kramerbooks.. Not the most helpful guy, but sometimes has good stuff.

Pretty much Connecticut Ave wine there is your best bet, Al's the man! P Whole Foods for a walk to Churchkey, sometimes Cairo in between which has lots of dusty shelf terds (but you find gems sometimes) is also good.

you can also take a walk down to the Wine Specialist on 22nd? which is close in the area, but there selection gets a bit sparse, but there are occasional gems in there sometimes, some prices are a bit high. Also stop by Pizza Paradiso for some pizza and beer on P Street, you can buy bottles for consumption there. Across the street is 1 West Dupont. DONT shop there.

That's about all! Enjoy your stay! If you are coming from San Diego take note, beer here costs more so be ready for sticker shock.

Note: Al is the man to his regulars.. If you're not one of them, he could care less.

I'm not a regular, I used to go in more when they published the "rare" stuff, he's always been nice to me when I have been there.

I haven't been to see Al as much lately either as I used to, as some of us know there has been a lot less out of distribution items, if at all any now then there used to be in the past.

They still have some nice items from time to time but not as much as they used to. I also haven't seen Al as much the few times I have been there lately either. I was however in there yesterday. There were some gems on the shelf there for sure but I didn't purchase anything.

Thanks for the recommendations. Just my luck that it is also Savor this weekend. Do you think this will mean it is going to be MORE packed at places like Churchkey etc? (Bars and restaurants)

In looking at the prices currently offered at Churchkey they aren't really alarming at all. Pretty much standard pricing, maybe a $1 more here and there, than all the gastro pubs etc out here.

well good then! Sounds like you are set... in fact it sounds like you are going to get dam well spoiled!

now maybe us East Coast fans here will have to travel down to San Diego and they can return the love!

I think you are in for good times my friend! Enjoy!

Was at Churchkey last night. Was able to grab a table, and ordered a few of each (XVII, Parabola, Merkin) without any issues. Wasn't overly packed, though it was a Tuesday. Not pricey at all. Paid a lot more for Parabola at the donut (GBD?) place last week.

Hahaha, I also think it is funny (in a sad way for me) that it looks like it is Firestone week at Churchkey. I guess the Savor thing again. I travel across the country only to find the same beers I can get at the FW brewery that is 30 minutes from my house. DOH! And again, the prices aren't jacked up that more than they are at the actual brewery.
