I don't understand the hate for beer works. it serves a purpose. the beers have been getting better and better every year. while i don't want to go there everyday, i do like stopping in and seeing what part of the world they're taking on each month. they use to do an english month in may which was awesome.

I get that it serves a purpose, just not for me. I disagree that the beer has been getting better but that's neither here nor there. There is a huge discrepancy between locations as well. Go to Lowell Beer Works and tell me how often you would choose to go back. BW has between slightly above mediocre to bad beer and the food is crap.

It's fine to post up at the bar with buddies and watch a game with an ok beer and eat some shitty nachos every so often, but there's plenty of places to go do that. We really don't need more.

I used to really not like Beer Works (mainly from my experiences with the Boston locations). But I just moved to Framingham and the one here is surprisingly better. Food is good, service is friendly, place is very clean, beer tastes better, and they have their own IPA not found at the other locations that's as good as the best hoppy stuff across town at Jack's. Don’t get me wrong, I’d prefer an independent, unique, brew pub rather than another Beer Works. But I'm a complete convert for my local one, though I’m still leery to go back to the Boston locations.

As for my 2 cents on Watch City – it needed to go, or get a complete overhaul. I used to like it there back in the day, but gradually over future visits my experiences there went down hill – my last 2 visits were down right awful and I swore it off completely. Since then The Gaff and Bison County were more worth my time.

Having gone to school in Waltham and lived there for some time after, I can say the closing of Watch City should be classified as a "mercy killing" - for the past 4 or 5 years you'd be better served walking across the street to Bison County to peruse their tap/bottle list than going and getting anything at Watch City.

Now if you'll excuse me, it's 11:30am, I'm three hours late to start drinking down at Bullets . . .

I was hoping WCB would be on an episode of Restaurant Impossible before they gave up.

Maybe it’s only a matter of time before there’s a brewery-version of that show

I'd rather see Jon Taffer in there running all over Waltham yelling at the top of his lungs, "SHUT IT THE F*CK DOWN!"

I think Kitchen Nightmares might be more appropriate.

Bullets in nearly the same breath as Bison County. That's something I never thought I'd hear.

Not optimal, but an improvement over previous tenant. Hopefully they follow through with an outdoor deck that was rumored when they attempted to take over a few years ago.

This chain of events should've happened 7 yrs ago, but am happy it's done now. Good news for Moody St - a few good replacements in the past year for tired/underperforming businesses at the end of their run.

I always liked the space inside Watch City, and I've had good beers there in years past. I'll miss the place having its own identity, and I hope the place doesn't get too much of the generic BW feel, but if they can brew beers like some of the ones I've had at the Framingham and Hingham locations, I'll look forward to heading out to Waltham for a beer again sometime.

Go to the Gaff guys. By far the best pub in the fine city of Waltham. Bison County stepped up it's beer game too recently. There are great choices now in Waltham and Boston Beer works won't be one of mine.

Speaking of Waltham pubs/bars, are there any with the decent beer AND whiskey selection?

Gaff and Bison are definitely Waltham Go-To's, but I also keep Joco's in my regular rotation too - Talk about stepping up their game... Just added six new lines for a total of 20, and always seem to have some great New England beers on: Maine Beer Co, Allagash, Baxter, Jack's Abby, Mystic, Newburyport, etc. Plus 2-3 West Coast options usually too: Stone, Lagunitas, Bear Republic, etc.

+1, Love the good cheap wings @ Jocos too.

Off Moody St but still in Waltham - Copper House Tavern is good too, especially if you like German lagers.
