When I think watermelon, I think light and refreshing. Watermelon Dorado is the complete antithesis of that. Horribly executed.

I was shocked, however, that I didn't hate Mango Even Keel.

Drain pour for me. Way too medicinal.

Of the three new fruit Sculpins, I enjoyed Watermelon Dorado the best. Pineapple Sculpin had minimal pineapple in the nose and none in the taste for me. Mango Even Keel is one of the worst beers I've ever tasted. It brought me back to my childhood and citrus flavored children's Tylenol. Whereas, the Watermelon Dorado had a pleasant nose and taste. As others have said more Jolly Rancher watermelon than actual watermelon, but I used to love watermelon jolly ranchers, so maybe it triggered a nostalgic response from me. It was also the last of the three I tried, so my expectations could not have been lowered more.

This is the first time I question a brewery on 'what were they thinking?'
There are thousands of beers that people love or hate, and I get that. Different palate's and all that. But this beer is bad based on the general consensus. Just throwing a 97% out there for arguments sake of people that loathe it. Myself included.

I will agree with everyone who said it smelled like a jolly rancher. I didn't think it was terrible, though I don't see a need to spend the money for a second one when Grapefruit Sculpin is available.

Disappointing to hear all of these responses. When I read about this being released, I actually got somewhat excited and was looking forward to trying it. Maybe it just reminded me of summer.

Being that a fresh Dorado is a boozy mess, I assumed there's no amount of watermelon that could clean it up.

Back in the day (if some of you older BAs remember) Dorado was 9.2%ABV and absolutely awesome. Not anymore, sadly.

Wished I hadn't, I only have my own curiosity to blame. I did like the Pineapple Sculpin though.

After trying 3 of the Sculpin variants I thought the Watermelon Dorado was going to be good as well. I even went out and bought a six pack of this but was surprised how bad it is. It was hard to drink and it has to be a really bad brew for me not to be able to finish it but I couldn't. Now I have 5 more of these brews, my plan is to throw them in the back of my fridge and forget about them for a little while. If they still are hard to drink after 6 months or so, it will be a gag brew for my buddies. Payback for Wild Blue that they had me try.

Terrible, but I found that if you drink it straight from the bottle it is slightly better because you avoid much of the aroma.

Still reminded me of jolly rancher in a glass. A friend bought them and couldn't drink them so his wife and I downed a six pack of them while he drove on a road trip. Just couldn't bring ourselves to throw away a 10% $15 six pack.

Reminded me of wine coolers my mom used to drink.

Wow! really guys? Drain pours on this? :astonished: At first sip I was a little shocked by the after taste as it is strong but I do like the watermelon jolly rancher taste you get. By the end of the beer I was a fan and overall I dig it!
I shared with a few friends and def got a mixed bag of reviews. Most common response was the Medicine or cough syrup taste, but I only tasted Jolly Rancher! LOL. I think it would of been better if they soured it up a little.

Watermelon Rind Dorado would've been a more accurate name.

Watermelon Dorado sounded great in my head, and smelled great... but tasted awful.

I actually enjoyed it... which must mean that I'm the only one on the site.... I thought it was pretty tasty, refreshing, and dangerously easy to gulp down with 10%. I wouldn't say it's better than sculpin or a lot of other Ballast Point brews, but I'd buy again if I was in the mood for it.

Very sicky sweet. Just wasn't really a fan at all. I drank it the one time and will never drink it again. I can't say that I've had the pineapple or mango yet but will at least give them a shot. I thought 21st amendment watermelon was much better.
