Waxed bottles...weeping??

This is the strangest thing, never seen anything like it. I have two waxed bottles (Prairie Christmas). When I apply pressure to the wax, liquid bubbles out from the various pores in the wax (most of the time clear, one occasion a light brown).

I have never, ever seen or heard of this happening.

The bottles are probably cellar temp...I wouldn't think trapped condensation or something would make this happen. My concern is the caps are not completely sealed, really did not want to crack one of these now let alone both of them...

Edit: One is weeping clear, the other keeps weeping light brown. The weeping occurs on various parts of the wax, from neck to under the cap area.

Peal off the wax? Wouldn't have to open the beer, but you could get a closer look at the caps.

Maybe they feel unloved. Cellaring can have that effect. (Sorry I am of no real help.)

Surprised nobody's asked this yet - does whatever is weeping smell like beer?

Well, it does not smell like just water. That said, doesn't smell like I'm taking a big wiff of bourbon and malts.

I tasted it...again, did not taste like just water...

Looking at those pictures made me feel naughty. Good thing my gf didn't walk in on me reading this.

Take the wax off and check the caps. You can re-wax, there's some good info in the Pumpkinator thread on the SW forum. I'm not sure if waxing over the wax would do anything.

Hahaha! That's great! "I look at your wax and I see it needs sealing..."

The pock marks are air bubbles in the wax, clearly. Now, all those beads of liquid have presumably been absorbed by the wax (leaving brown stains). I mean..we've all seen beer bottles where there was old, dried beer around/under the caps. I'm assuming this is the case..just not old/dried yet?

But seriously...I would strip off the wax. Could be a leaking cap or a cracked neck. Ask chaseabeer - he's the brewer/owner.

After contacting the person I traded with, all of his bottles have dried brown dots on them....It's highly unlikely that all of these beers had bad caps...isnt it?

Sounds like a good time to email the brewery and/or the dude mentioned above. I have a few ideas, but at the end of the day I haven't personally run into that before so it'd just be me guessing.

Or just pound them both and have a well above average Friday

I'll bet that a waxed bottle of Ray's Good Liquor Sauce wouldn't weep.
