Messaged the persons whose name was mentioned. The person I traded with contacted the brewery. We'll see what happens.

Yes, strip wax, examine bottle and cap. You do not have to drink the beer if you are saving to cellar. Until you rewax, you can saran wrap it if you feel the need, but keeping beer refrigerated ******s the aging process.

Ever heard of crying in your beer? This beer gives you the tears with which to do it. :grinning:

Well, if I strip the wax I don't necessarily have to rewax it to keep it in the cellar if the cap looks good, right?

Good luck OP! May the beer gods be with you.

And to your above question, answer is not likely. If cap is sound it's like every other beer you've aged that didn't have wax.

Just a random thought here. Maybe they are air bubbles from a poor wax job, and they're a bit porous? I'd peel the wax of the worst offender, and take a look. If everything seems OK, just seal it back up with electrical or duct tape.

During waxing...if the wax is 'really hot' and the dip was more than a quick 'in and out' the cap liner can become pliable enough to 'breach' the cap. Usually a little CO2 and maybe a tad of beer.

Of course this could mean flat beer or not. The liner tends to assume it's original shape but it's a bottle by bottle sort of thing so keep an eye out to catch before you leave store etc.

I was thinking wax not melted all the way.

Many people will have to look up that word to see how appropriate it is.

Here is my take the bottle was filled and some beer residue was on the bottle when they dipped it. Only way to be sure is to strip it

These bottles are dipped after filling. I'm going to say its a little beer that wasn't rinsed and got trapped. I'd say leave the wax on and when you open them one day and the beer is flat. I'll replace them.

Beer is fine. Seems like moisture (not beer) under the wax. One thing interesting that I was surprised with the "old ale" is the fact that it is damn near a sour. To verify I asked my wife to smell and she said wow did not know it was a sour. Not sure the intention here but not what I expected, no sweetness, body, just very dry and slightly tart.
