Triple C Brewing, Charlotte NC, has a pull tab in their waxed bottles. You get the benefit of wax and the ease of getting to the cap thanks to the tab. Anybody else doing this? It's a great idea. You can see in the second photo how easily, and cleanly the wax comes off. Cheers, geeks!

What, exactly, IS the benefit of wax? :astonished:

Looks like it worked very well on that bottle. However, I've also had the experience of the wax being very brittle and when the tab was pulled fragments of wax went all over the place.

It *supposedly* ensures a better seal for aging - but I think that was more the case back when things were corked more than capped. It does quickly illustrate that the bottle hasn't been opened, or altered and resealed. Mainly - it's for aesthetics. I for one like the touch, it just looks good. Cheers!

I agree Triple C's pull tab is the way to go for wax. The only downside is you have to hold it over a trash can when you pull it cuz the wax flies everywhere. Perfectly fine with trading that for taking a knife to it and risking injury.

The first time i saw it, Flying Fish in NJ waxes their bombers and they use these pull tabs.

Never opened a wax sealed beer bottle. Not after buying a hot sauce bottle with a wax seal that took me forever to open. I just want to get to the sweet hot sauce/beer nectar!

Pull tabs are better than screaming obscenities while hacking at it with a kitchen knife

Even normally waxed bottles don't require a knife to open, that's a noob mistake. Just open the beer with a bottle opener like you would if there was no wax, it works. Using a knife is pointless and makes removing the wax a difficult and dangerous process when it shouldn't be.

Wax adds tremendous value. I generally pay about $5 more per limited release bomber that is waxed than one that's not. That couldn't possibly be merely aesthetics and marketing, that would seem wrong...

Griffin Claw does it here in Michigan and I love 'em! Makes opening a waxed bottle so much easier.

Maker's Mark has those. Probably a good idea versus someone who is drunk slicing their finger off and suing the beer company.

Wellll, the KBBS scandal a while back involved a person REWAXING the bottle, so wax alone doesn't necessarily indicate taht a bottle hasn't been opened, altered or resealed.

YES! OMG getting the wax off some bottles can be a nightmare its so thick. I've always wondered why they don't have a built in way to get the wax off. To answer the question, I can't think of any wax bottles I've run into that have something like this.
