Wayfinder and Ecliptic introduce Cold IPA

I'm going to write an article for BA; "How IPA finally pushed me away from beer."

 

Someone call the gimmick police! If it uses lager yeast, it simply is NOT an IPA.

 

Well, don't call the Feds at the TTB - their legal definition doesn't mention it ... or much else.

 

Sure sounds like a IPL to me. Hey Jacks Abby, you've been making cold IPAs for 12 years now and didn't realize it?!

 

I love the, "It sounds like an IPL, but it totally isn't" explanation.

 

Does JA use adjuncts?

 

Read the marketing propaganda... er.... I mean news article. It clearly states that this is different from an IPL since the ABV is higher. Didnt you know ABV is what differentiates an ale from a lager?

 

Maybe Yuengling will 'resurrect' their beer and just change the label to read "Cold IPA"!?!

 

not that I know of in their IPLs, but if anything I feel like adjuncts make it more like a lager.

 

Hey don't forget that it also doesn't have any of that "old world" hop character, so it CAN'T be a pilsener

 

Wonder what they might make of All Day IPA with an abv under 5%. After all the abv is too low be be called an ipa.

Remember the good old days when it was considered bad taste to market to consumers that they could taste the "cold"? Now evidently it's "innovation" to revisit IPL recipes, update the hops, and presto! "Cold IPA". For a lager.

This is so apropos of the state of 'craft' in 2021.
