I'm probably posting this in the wrong section or it's already been discussed... or I'm and idiot...if so just aware me

    Here are my ideas:

    1) "BA Sort" or "Trending" . When your looking at a particular style page or brewer page there should be some different sort options. It would be very interesting to see which beers the most reviews have been posted for in the last (week/month/year/) and how many views each beer or brewer page has gotten. Some sort of algorithm based on number of page hits and reviews a beer has had in a particular time frame would be helpful. This way when you click on a brewer you will see there most popular and trending beers first.

    2) When you click "Beers" on the top menu it takes you to the most recent reviews. I'm afraid there are too many reviews for this to be helpful to anyone these days. If you click beers it should take you to an area where you decide to browse by style, by brewer, or by what it trending.

    3) I don't think you should have to search or do anything besides click one button on the opening page to get to a list of brewers to then further click on and get to their beers. This also should be sorted in a helpful way. There are too many brewers with too many beers. I know you can sort by number of reviews but that isn't relevant either it brings you the oldest best distributed beers. I want to be able to sort by "new", "popular" etc...

    4) It should be more like Wikipedia. Users should be able to edit. Users can add a beer like an idiot then others should be able to change it.

Like your ideas but think care should be taken by giving users too much power to edit. May lead to a lot of misinformation.

A map function for "Places"!!! I've wanted to have this many times in the past traveling to a new city and wanting to see locations relative to where I was staying and seeing places relative to one another. I think there was mention of this improvement by BA for 2016 but I don't see it.

#1 way to easy to hack, Look at what happened at the first release of Lizard King, a whole line of perfect 5s by users that had only one beer reviewed. weighted ratings are the only way to go.
#2, I like the way reviews are listed, ofttimes I find new to me and interesting beers that way, then it's up to me to research and find out more
#3, you do realize there are over 3K breweries in the USA alone don't you? Impossible to get them all on one page for your single click
#4 Wikipedia should never be held up as a model for information, never.

Yea basically the goal would be to prevent inconsistencies, duplicate beers, and misinformation. I think if people were able to edit the beer pages users would mostly correct these. Each change would have to be reviewed but it would still save time for the Bros etc. For example if you look at Boston Beer Companies page a bunch of the beer titles start with Samuel Adams and others don't (Samuel Adams Rebel IPA vs Rebel IPA) others have both.

#1 Yelp doesn't seem to have a problem with it.
#3 they dont have to all be on the same page. Point is it should only be one click from the homepage to a list of brewers. That list can be any length.

Fair enough on the other points.

You should be able to rate malt profile from 1-10, hop profile, from 1-10 etc and even tag beers with certain ingredients such as hops. This could lead to being able to sort IPAs be hop strands used.

You can already do that. Click on the "Report an Update" button, include all of the edits you want to make in the "Details" section, the bros / mods will review the update and make the appropriate changes.

I think this is very interesting.
Be able to search beers by dominant hop profile. A chinook or columbus hopped beer is different from a galaxy or mosaic hopped or citra hopped beer. Could be pretty useful IMO.

I suggest that you use the mobile app/mobile site (you can access from computer) until it becomes available in the main site.

You can submit an update on any beer/place and the changes are reviewed by Site Editors and either approved or not... with the exception of duplicates which can only be handled by @Todd and @Jason until the new tooling is complete.

At one point @Todd mentioned something akin to this rather than adding any more styles... Can't remember when I saw that or when it was supposed to be coming.

I've done that but the mobile site with places seems to only produce a proper map via GPS ("nearby") so it's not a research too per se without that clunkiness. What map function I'm looking for is to generate a map of a given place via simple search using opt in-out locations in Places (Brewery vs. Bar vs. Eatery etc). Not available on main site or mobile. If there's something I'm missing by all means PM me with tips.

Nope - that does not exist and I'm not suggesting that what is available is perfect (or everything desired), but rather trying to offer folks some options until the new functionality is introduced.

Still would like to see a mapping function for Places. Anyone else?

It's already been confirmed (in numerous threads) that some form of mapping/Nearby feature will be in BA 4.0.
