Wayward Lane Brewing | Schoharie, NY Terraform | 6.8% | 16 oz can This iteration was blasted on the hot side with mountains of El Dorado and Chinook, then dosed with a hefty addition of Mosaic Incognito. After a neutral fermentation, the well attenuated base was dry hopped at immense rates with Mosaic, El Dorado, El Dorado Cryo and Talus Cryo. Piles of ripe blueberry, bright pink grapefruit juice, and watermelon sorbet, all layered onto a lush and piney backbone with a pronounced yet inviting bitterness. ...and don't forget to drop this beer a rating and review (click the beer name)!
Lots of blueberry and even some watermelon in the nose and taste, which are fruity and sweet. Some pine bitterness but not a blast to the face. A little bit of cloudiness in the body appearance.
What a treat! I chose this WCIPA first out of the BA box because I have heard excellent things reports about Wayward Lane , Schoharie,NY. First off, the aroma was delicious tropical fruit. Appearance was golden straw with a persistent thin head. I’m tasting grapefruit hint of sweet with a piney snap. Feel is medium, clean. Overall excellent, I don’t know much about rating beer, but I’m on my way to visit Wayward Lane, land of the Mohawks, Dutch trappers, and the finest Slouters you will find! My wife is from Cobleskill , so I love Schoharie County!!!
I decided to kick off my voyage through the box with Terraform. I thought I would begin by visiting the East Coast and finally end up in California for lack of ny better way to go through the box. What a great way to start! I liked the balance between piney and hop bitterness. There is a slight hint of citrus but it was in the background for me. I want to call out the cool artwork on the label. Well done Wayward Lane!
This was the last one left in the WCIPA box and I just finished it. Nice beer. It's a single IPA so it doesn't lose points for being light bodied, but I do feel like there are elements of tropical hop character and bitterness there that would have benefited from a slightly bigger body. Regardless, I liked it more and more as I sipped it.
The Last in Line of the Twelve. I started with the earliest dates. Terraform does well as a WCIPA. Bitter and dry enough to fill the bill. Citrus and pine, a smooth, low bitterness doesn't linger long. The party is over. Time for a NEW WCIPA BOX!!
BEER 13! Stone IPA. What I was drinking prior to Shingles and the WCIPA BOX. I was judging my beers by what I'll call the "Stone Standard". Stone just seems to be a good standard for WCIPA. It took a lot of years to get to appreciating bitter and dry beers. For me it's the malt that goes into it and IMHO I just think the balance of this particular beer makes it that standard for my taste buds. SIXPOINT Resin is another standard for Imperial IPA. More malt, hops, bitterness but exceptional balance. I love it when I find them fresh. MANLY BEER! Thanks Brooklyn! I can tell you I'll be buying these Stone's and my local Target keeps them in stock. Thanks Target! HAPPY HOLIDAY AMERICANOS!! Fingers and toes, SAFETY FIRST! Enjoy the fireworks.
4.18/5 rDev +4% look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25 A: Pours a crystal clear medium golden yellow in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly form the bottom of the glass and moderate bright yellow + slightly copper + slightly brassy colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall foamy off-white head that quickly reduces to a large patch of thin film covering approximately 80% of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed. S: Moderate to strong aromas of citrus/grapefruit + citrus/grapefruit pith + tropical/melon + berry + pine/resinous hops over the top of light to moderate aromas of toasted + biscuit + caramel malts with a light amount of caramel sweetness. T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of toasted + biscuit + caramel malts with a light amount of caramel sweetness. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of citrus/grapefruit + citrus/grapefruit pith + tropical/melon + berry + pine/resinous hops which impart a moderate amount of aggressive lingering bitterness. M: Slightly lighter than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp with a moderate amount of dryness in the finish. O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and a pleasantly crisp + dry mouthfeel with moderate aggressive bitterness. Enjoyable with classic West Coast IPA hops as well as some tropical + berry hop flavors and aromas.
Wayward Lane: Terraform Appearance (Look) – Golden, clear with a bit of haze. Bubbly with a soapy head that dissipated. Aroma (Smell) – Musty and grassy. Nice. Taste – Citrusy. Lemon. Nice piney bite. Some white wine. Mouthfeel (Feel) – Thin/Medium body. Overall – First beer from the West Coast IPA box. I also hadn’t had any beer for about 2 weeks. This tasted so good. I’ve been missing “musty”/ “dank” beers and this hit the spot.
My last one from this magnificent box of WCIPA’s, and my first beer from this brewery. I liked it. Shocker, I know. 4.35/5 rDev +7.4% look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25 Pours a slightly unfiltered golden color with a soapy white head that provides a nice cap for the beer and moderate lacing. Beautiful WCIPA. The nose includes ripe blueberries, grapefruit, and resiny pine. I like the direction this beer is heading. The taste is all about the interplay between the blueberries, slightly dank grapefruit, and nicely bitter resiny pine, with the bitterness lingering at the back of the palate. Absolutely delicious. The mouthfeel is medium and very dry, on point for the style. From the wonderful WCIPA box, this is another one of those beers that I’d always have in my beer fridge if I had regular access to it.
