I’m not going to count (I tried sorting the list by state but it doesn’t seem to work correctly)—but as far as this site is concerned ID and AK also need to be included in the discussion.

Oregon breweries took home 29 medals all told. Remarkably I think, 12 were from breweries in the Redmond-Bend-Sunriver area.

Sure, I saw 1 Idaho winner, didn't notice an AK winner during my quick scan.

I'd be shocked if any of the AK breweries entered anything.

I'd be surprised if Alaskan didn't. Midnight Sun and Anchorage too.

OK, you guys are right (@blackcloud, @BBThunderbolt). I downloaded the list and ran a search. Idaho had one winner and Alaska had zero.

Oregon won 29 medals and Washington won 15.

...and even more tenuously connected, 4 medals from BC breweries.

    Congratulations to the winners!

I wonder what the difference between a WCIPA and American-style IPAs are.

And did American stouts and black IPAs get lumped into one category?

The wording of the two categories is such that I can't think of a beer that fits in one but wouldn't fit in the other. The cynic in me says it's to get entry fees for 494 beers instead of just 281, and the non-cynic in me has no rebuttal.

Eugene OR breweries bring home gold (Alesong) and silver (ColdFire) for fruited Belgians.

I'm happy to see that as well, but I have to be honest here Jason. Considering how outstanding the beer scene is in Eugene, I thought they might do a bit better than this.

Ruse releases quite a few American-style IPAs, some of which are WC and some hazy. Always confuses me.

Absolutely. It also comes down to who entered, and what they entered. I know CF has entered only a couple random beers before.

The bottom line is with 9300 entries the odds are really slim in any category. An outstanding beer in its best form can get a brewery in the conversation at the medal table, but it’s against up to 11 other outstanding beers in their best form too.

WCIPA is the more modern evolution of the IPA, with less malt character, more modern hop flavors, and generally less bitterness.

Alaskan maybe. MS and Anchorage rarely submit any beers to contests, to my knowledge.
