We discovered that. Luckily her company has a shuttle from either station to their office.

Odd train system, certainly compared to Chicago and DC.

Agreed on the NEIPAs point and the other styles. Not too many breweries offer milds and dunkelweizens.

Welcome to New England and the Boston area! We certainly have an embarrassment of riches in the beer scene around here! So many amazing restaurants, too. Enjoy!

something to keep in mind is that commute times this year are drastically different from the norm. I recently moved out of the greater Boston area, but pre-pandemic my commute was about 1:30-1:45 each way, but that became 1hr in March (and then zero pretty soon after). Not sure what it's like these days, but I assume it's nothing like it normally is. The nice thing is that regardless of where you move, there's good beer to be had north, west and south of the city.

Not local, but we now receive regular distro of 3 Floyd’s. Zombie Dust is pretty much a shelfie. While not a WCIPA, it might scratch that itch.

You will love the Green Line... Boston is the oldest metro in the US and you can tell.

I echo the Great North and Lawson's recommendations.

If by odd you mean terrible, then you’d be correct.

That's not really fair. With the upcoming Green Line expansion you'll be able to go from Medford to Brookline in a little over 3 hours on a good day.

And it's probably also worth checking out what area attractions interest you most, because once you put down roots either south or north of the city you will rarely cross the rubicon of downtown to go to the other side for anything short of emergency surgery. There are apparently people who live west of the city but I've only heard rumors about them and it's not clear they actually exist.

Yes, we really are nearly this provincial here :sunglasses:

Depends on how far west. Once you get past Worcester, into the Lost Valley of 413, I'm not conviced anything is out there (here be there dragons) except Tree House Brewing and BTs Smokehouse.

Best part of the state is west of Tree House.

You may need to take a drive. Seriously. The “Lost Valley” as you call it has no shortage of things to do and places to visit. I won’t waste my time proselytizing about the specifics.

Haha, whenever I have to go to Allston/Brighton/Brookline that’s a guaranteed Uber ride. It’s a fucking straight shot in a car but the T goes all around the world.

But the Green Line making it a 3 hour trek as opposed to half a day is appealing...

Tree House is a myth to lure people West.

There's the 66 from Harvard Square but that's still a bit of a trek for you, I'd imagine.

when I lived outside of Porter Sq and worked in Allston, I took the 86. We used to jokingly call it the hipster express since it went from Somerville to Allston/Brighton (and was generally anything but express).

I’ve drunkenly run across Harvard Square so many times to catch the 86. And when you just miss it at JFK, it will still take 10 minutes for it to cross the damn bridge and you have to stand there yelling “come on” at the bus driver while gesturing at the traffic in front of him.

Couldn't you beat it to its next stop given that traffic? Or just...grab a pint at Charlie's (which is what I would do).

The next stop after JFK is by the stadium. It’s a haul. And yea, I’d usually end up getting a drink at Shay’s. Charlie’s ain’t what it used to be.

Haven't been in a bit. My major problem with Shay's is people smoking on the patio and making it impossible to breath when out on the patio.
