My wife and I are going to be in Columbus tomorrow night, and we were thinking of hitting up either Weasel Boy or Jackie O's for dinner Friday night. It would be cool to go to both, and originally I wanted to hit up Weasel Boy for lunch, then go to Athens for dinner, but unfortunately they don't open until 4pm and I've since made other plans. So, thoughts on both places for dinner and beers? Weasel Boy is about 30 minutes closer, and I'm thinking that Jackie O's had some issue lately with their equipment and they might not have the complete selection of beers like they normally do, so that gives Zanesville a slight edge, but I'm open to either. Eventually, I will go to both, but if you could only choose one to visit this weekend, which one would be best? Thanks for the input.
Not that either aren't a worthwhiile trip, but if you're only in Columbus for the weekend I'd say save yourelf the hour/hour and half drive each way and hit some of the stellar taplists in and around Columbus itself. I just checked Yellow Brick Pizza's current tap list and they have Jackie O's,Weasel Boy,Three Floyds, and more all currently on tap now. There are many places in Columbus with choices that good. Bodega, Bob's Bar,even the couple World Of Beer locations are great just to mention a few.
I'm actually in Columbus almost monthly, so we've hit up several of the local places. I was thinking about the Bodega, as I've never been there, but we like to visit the actual breweries or brewpubs if we can, sample their food and beers, and kinda take in the ambiance, if you will. Our hotel is literally 30 seconds away from the Barley's on High, so I will definitely spend some time there, possibly Elevator as that's about a 5 minute walk, and CBC is a high probability too.
If you'll be at Barley's, don't forget to check out what they have for Firkin Friday. Looks like tomorrow will be the Bicentennial IIPA on Simcoe. http://barleysbrewing.com/whats_on_tap.htm
Oh, and the Short North Pint House just opened up down the street from there. Haven't had a chance to visit yet but hopefully will this weekend. http://pinthouse.thecgsgroup.com/
Not sure if maybe they have something listed on Facebook? I can't access at work to confirm. I'd guess that Bodgea would likely have the better selection (http://www.columbusbodega.com/DRAFT.pdf).
Weasel Boy is a good place, but their hours do make it difficult for a fast stop. For me, Jackie O's beats them in beer, atmosphere and the food is good. So I would take Athens.
I've only been to Bodega ~5 times but every time it's been a madhouse - their draft selection is great, but evenings seem to be way too crowded for an enjoyable experience.
Both the brewpub and the production brewery tap room will be open this Friday. There are 8 beers on at both locations. The brewpub has a number of treatments on draft aswell, and some other barrel blends i believe.
I would go with Jackie O's if you had to pick one. The pizza at Weasel Boy is not very good and their tap list is less than stellar right now. Jackie O's should have something amazing beer on tap. And their food is great!
Even though Anastasia is on tap right now Seriously though, the pizza has gotten better in the last 3 months for some reason or another. Whether Shawn adjusted things or whatever, I don't know. All I know is it's way better than it was. Also, the Kolsch and Sour Brown with Concord grapes should be on tap very, very soon.
Anastasia is worth the trip. Although the glass I had on Friday didn't taste like it usually does. I had a few Eddy Fitz bottles before that though
It is a very fresh batch. Ana is usually best when it's got a couple months on it, which it didn't get this batch. The Kolsch is on tap now, and the Mango Wheat will be on tap this weekend.
