When weather gets to single digits or below zero I try to avoid sending out boxes on any day except Monday to make sure it gets to the destination during the week. I always check with the person I'm trading with to see what they are comfortable with.

I received a box of IPAs last week when the daytime temp was -6 and nothing froze.
The guy did an awesome job insulating with newspaper, but it also didn't sit on the porch in the elements very long.

If you're shipping lower ABV beers, at least 20s is the best bet.
If shipping stuff around 10%, it can probably handle near 0 temp.

Never thought about that, but it makes sense. Interesting!
