Hi Folks - looking for some direction here. I will be at a wedding in Branford CT next weekend and its looking like I will have a good amount of free time on my hand as my wife is in the wedding. I will be getting there around noon on Friday. Are there any breweries in the 30-45 min range from this area? Also, will breweries fill any growlers or do they need to be their own? Its been a couple years since Ive been to a brewery in CT so Im not familiar with the landscape down this way. It looks like Steady Habit is fairly close so I might hit them up. Any advice is appreciated! Cheers!
There are 3 breweries in Branford: Stony Creek, DuVig, Thimble Island. You are also close to a bunch of others. Here's a map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1LEBou0NzoWLGKoJ_eWqGwLcDJhU Click on New Haven on the left, those are the breweries closest to Branford. Highly recommend New England Brewing. Stony Creek is a beautiful brewery, but the beers are not highly sought after. All CT breweries will fill any growler, with a few exceptions due to type.
Branford resident here, this is a few of us here. Nebco is about 20 minutes from branford, maybe a little longer with traffic, that would probably be the best place to grab a couple growlers and have some samples. Steady habit is about a 35 minute drive, worth checking out if you have time. We have 3 breweries in branford, all kind of mediocre IMO. Thimble island, stony creek and duvig. Out of the three i would say thimble island makes the best beer. Stony creek is a amazing facilty, its a really cool place to relax by the river and drink a beer, it is bring your own food, but they normally have food trucks outside. Make sure you stop at coastal, one of the best liqour stores in the state for craft beer IMO. If you end up venturing into new haven, there is a couple craft beer bars that are worth checking out, cask republic, prime 16, and a new place called the beer collective. Great pizza spots in new haven as well. A new restaraunt/craft beer bar called local just opened up in branford a day or two ago, another spot with decent beer in branford is GW carsons. Have fun! If you go to nebco, don't bring flip top growlers, they prefer to fill regular 64 and 32oz screw tops. I believe steady habit will fill all types of growlers.
/Thread. Great work @Evmo31 You're probably having the wedding at Woodwinds, right? In that case Thimble Island is a hop skip and a jump away. Literally 2 minutes down the road. Worth a stop by, it's the best beer made in Branford. They do tours, too. Check out the times on the website.
Thanks @BranfordBound & @Evmo31 Looks like I have more options that I thought. Im digging the idea of some New Haven pie on the way to NEBCO. Whats the name of the pizza place that rivals Pepe's? I will definitely burn some time browsing Coastal. Ive seen the name pop up on here quite a bit and I trust y'alls opinions. Are there any stouts distro'ed in CT that wouldn't make their way to Mass?
Sally's is next door to Pepe's and is their main competitor. There's also Modern nearby on State Street that makes apizza just as well but with much less waiting times.
MANY other good Pizza places in New Haven. Best Pizza City in the U.S. in my opinion. My favorite is Modern, but Sally's and BAR are also very good. (among others) If you go to Thimble Islands, DuVig is right around the corner. Nice little place, friendly people. Also close to Branford is Overshores, they specialize in Belgian beers. Great guest bottle list too. enjoy....
@Shyla987 Sorry dude, I was supposed to be working but I was BAing instead. I will blame it on that. No burn intended.
