Congratulations! Local brew kegs would have been my choice if they let me! If you could somehow score Founders or 3 Floyds that would be awesome to say the least.

I recommend getting bottles instead of the keg. Kegs are very expensive for craft and even more when you factor set up, co2, kegerator, etc. Get some IPAs, some stouts, some pils or lager, etc. You will have more variation and better beer.

I got married in March and we served a keg of Live Oak Hefe then bottles and cans of stuff like Deschutes Red Chair, Abita Strawberry (the wife loves it), Austin Beerworks Fire Eagle IPA, Shiner Bock and some Miller Lite. We tried to stay away from anything too high in alcohol content. The selection seemed to go over well.

Just remember, you're probably not going to spend too much time enjoying what you're drinking so no need to get too fancy. Just make sure there is plenty to go around and everyone has a good time.

I'm enough of a beer snob that I can't enjoy BMC. Even at a wedding, if all they have is BMC, I'm not drinking... But I can still have a good time without drinking.

Ale Asylum Ambergeddon is a worthy consideration!!! Bedlam too if still available.

Consider getting two beers that can be mixed. That way you have 3 kinds available while only buying two.

I had a birthday party with a sixtels of Ommegang Abbey and Flying dog sour cherry. Each was delicious on their own, but the mixture of the two was even better.

Less than a block from Founders!

Btw, how have you not converted any friends or family to craft beer?

because i live in Charlotte, NC now for the last four years :slight_frown: and the family lives in Michigan.. even when i lived in Michigan next to founders, I was more of a booze drinker because it was insanely cheap for top shelf liquor.. you dont know what you have, until its gone..

Hanzo nailed it. Yeungling for the kids and assorted sixers iced for you and your inner circle. Your uncle want's Budweiser and will wonder what is wrong with the 60 minute.

A friend of mine got married recently. He got a half barrel of two hearted for the wedding party the night before the wedding. It kicked around noon on his wedding day. He had 2 other half barrels for the reception. They were leinie's.. Somethibg like an amber and maybe the shandy. I can't remember. Everything went over really well.
