I am getting married in June and I'm currently trying to figure out what beers to have on tap. We are trying to keep it local (OH/PA/NY area) and I'm having trouble deciding on a lager/pilsner. At first I was thinking Great Lakes Elliot Ness or Victory Lager, but I'm starting to think a lighter lager or pilsner might be more appropriate. Any recommendations? I was thinking maybe GL Dortmunder Gold. I want something the BMC drinkers will find accessible since we won't be having any BMCs, but at the same time I want it to be a high quality brew.

Troegs Sunshine Pils is excellent, and should have crossover appeal. Hopefully it will be available in June.

Another idea may be to go for a Kolsch- Captain Lawrence's is fantastic.

I think you Dortmunder Gold is an excellent choice.

I've found many BMCHC drinkers are turned off by craft pilsners' more aggressive hop profiles.

The Dortmunder would be a great choice. I would also consider Stoudt's Gold. Both are excellent beers and highly approachable.

I usually pick up Victory Lager for parties with a mix of beer tastes. It seems to be acceptable to all.
I'm actually in the beginning stages of converting a couple of friends who are BMC drinkers
because they've had (and liked) Victory at my place.

Sunshine Pils is a great Pils, but I agree that it is to agressive for the "pedestrian" beer drinker.
Dortmunder Gold, and CL Kolsch are great suggestions. Ubu ale is another "Crowd pleaser" as are L.I.'s Long Ireland Celtic Ale, and Greenport Harbor Pale.Yards has some very good choices as well.

Thanks for the help and suggestions. I think it might be time to get a focus group for a GL/Victory/Troegs taste test! I completely forgot about Sly Fox Helles too.

Definitely Sly Fox Helles. It has a very mild flavor that BMC drinkers will recognize, but BAs will appreciate its many fantastic nuances. Stoudt's Gold Lager is similarly awesome, and V Lager is a good choice too. Victory Summer Love is good too if you're looking for something a little more crisp and pils-ish.

Prima Pils was a hit at my wedding with the BMC crowd.

Sunshine Pils available today @ the brewerey and shipping out to distrubution as well. Maybe it's release will turn this friggin weather around!

    Congrats on the nuptials!

I would have assumed that Prima Pils would be a bit too hoppy for most in that crowd, though? I love Pilsners, I like hoppier beers but yet there is something about Prima Pils that just doesn't hit the mark for me...very unfortunately.

I have to second Victory Lager, and that is a really tasty Lager and seems to hit the spot for the BMC crowd and the craft drinkers alike! Stoudts Gold would be a great choice as well and while I think GL Dortmunder Gold would be a decent choice too, I don't think it would hit as broad of a spectrum as some of the others would.

Flying Dog (Frederick, MD) – Underdog Atlantic Lager is a fine lager with great grassy qualities and very drinkable. I believe most distributors can also get 1/6 barrels of this if you're going the kegerator route at your reception.
