Im a pretty athletic guy. I go to the gym regularly, I work outside, and i have 2 athletic dogs that I walk daily. Im an avid hiker/adventurer, and a clean eater. I am 31 y/o 6' 200lbs and by no means cut or shredded but I am in pretty good shape considering. That being said I come from a fat Italian family, on average I consume no more than 3-10 beers a week, the weekends it is no different about (3-10 beers). Now taking this into consideration I smoke a bunch of refer too, so snacks are always a problem... I definitely dig the reward system.... I basically said nothing but I'm fat and happy, who's countin anyway?

I've been doing low-carb for six months now with great results (265 to 205). I find that treating myself to an occasional beer or two on weekend dates with the wife keeps me honest and happy. They can be pretty carb heavy, especially the stouts, browns, and higher-abv ones.

Yep. I hope i didnt come off as aggressive. I tend to get hypersensitive towards keyboard/internet warriors who
try to belittle or critique people about things they have no knowledge about.

Absolutely not saying you were doing that though!

    You seem like good people!

I agree with your post about everything in moderation, btw.

I lost almost 35 pounds last spring before we went on a trip to sanibel. That being said, i put on about 20 of it this summer but I sure enjoyed all the great beer I got to try. I'm back on my diet now that consists of under 1100 calories a day and NO beer during the week (monday-thursday). I reward myself on the weekends. I lost that weight in about 3.5 months and I'm hoping to do the same again. It not only helps my health, but is a great help on my wallet not buying beer all the time.

I have lost weight over the last few months with a 1 beer per day with diner diet. I just count it and its calories as part of my meal.

I always reward pooping with beer. That's how I stay potty trained.

it's easy to lose weight via diet. eliminate gluten, dairy, refined sugar/processed food (basically anything not "natural"), caffeine, and alcohol (or at least "reduce", like with gluten - make your only gluten intake beer) and the pounds come off pretty easily. BUT...mentally, that's just not possible for some people, so you might be right that it can be easier to just work out.

but if you can do that elimination diet (which my wife and i are on - not for weight reasons though), it's pretty gratifying - and not just because of weight loss.

Serious question - caffeine has an effect on weight loss?

No real 'science' that shows caffeine has a significant affect on permanent weight loss.

It can help suppress your appetite and give you more energy, leading to increased thermogenesis, but by itself it's not going to make you lose weight.

Just another tool to help you on the path to weight loss.

Got it - but the guy I responded to was talking about eliminating it (along with alcohol, dairy, refined/processed foods etc) as part of a weight loss program

I decided to do January without beer. I have a few BCBCS in the fridge though. Well see how it goes.

I can see eliminating it if you have a coffee/caffeine 'problem' and are trying to 'cleanse' yourself, but caffeine, when used appropriately, will only help weight loss, imo.

It can be done but tuff I lost 35 pounds by building muscle and diet has not suffered actually eat more then before just smarter food and lots of protein. To loose 30 pounds by trying to loose weight u need to strict diet and about 6 hours of cardio a week.

Apologies...I was speaking more broadly about overall wellness and included caffeine. I can't speak to its specific affect on weight. Should have left it out.

I'm 52 and I've been like 175 forever. I used to weight train and cardio. What work for me now I climbing.
I do have a tredmill in the basement so theres never an accuse not to. I am addicted to that excerise in the am..,.
Unfortunately I'm also addicted to beer. With new year I tried mon-thurs no beer . too bad I had 2 last night.too bad that ruined that. They were both sessions though. IMO you have to think about that. And also keep your body "tricked" by doing something different or a variation of exercise you do. Otherwise it stops working. This flower child is tasting real good right now and the pretzel I just ate is shooting my glycemic level through the roof:wink:
