@kellyst started this thread in the Beer Talk forum: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/weihenstephaner-1516-kellerbier.386362/ Sounds like a very tasty beer to me. I am very much looking forward to drinking this new 'old' beer. Prost!
The brewery always has a unfiltered pilsner that is one of my favorite german beers. I should walk to the brewery today and ask when it will be out. Maybe I can get a case with my employee discount . (I work at the TUM Weihenstephan campus, the University owns the brewery, sorry had to brag). Edit: now I remember there was a kellerbier available at the employee party during the summer, wonder if is this one. very good.
@chianski - do you know Iain Whitehead (jamesw her eon BA)? He's a fellow Canadian who studied and now works at Weihenstephan? Prosit!
Just had the chance to try it at last weekend's Braukunst Live. Very solid, even if I've come to prefer a bit wilder Franconian Kellers myself. Shockingly, Weihenstephan at the festival also had a "100% Brett beer" on offer by own of their young TU brewmasters, that will see release around the same date as "Isar Kind". Pretty clean for a brett beer as well, and very dry.
I really like this beer! The brewery claims that 1516 will be produced for a limited time. I hope that's not the case.
Did they brew another batch, or are you drinking the limited release from months ago? (Bottled in January if I recall correctly)
