    Just saw this on craigslist:

Doesn't seem legit. Or seems like a bad business model.

Curious why you say that? I think there are a lot of guys who would love to start a brewery and have some money to play with but don't have the know how or the time to do it themselves. And finding someone in the business to get things started until it's viable enough for them to quit their day job and go all in themselves is probably the only way to make the dream happen. That's what this sounds like to me, although you never know. And this is posted in the upper NY State CL so doesn't look to be a NYC Brewery.

How so? He's hiring a brewmaster, paying him a salary and, as an added benefit, an unstated percentage share of the company. Not that different from businesses with employee discount stock buying plans, partial ESOPs, stock options, profit-sharing plans and other bonuses, etc.

    Ok perhaps I misspoke.

The way it's written and presented is not professional at all.

He wrote it for a Craigslist audience. Perhaps you should tell him there's a Help Wanted section here.

I agree that it seems unprofessional. Like many things on Craigslist, it shrouded in filth and scam-potential, although I don't see any scam at play here.

Professionalism aside - this is a legitimate way to start a business. Think about a similar situation with a head chef at a restaurant who gets paid to do his job. Now imagine the owner doesn't have the money to pay the chef what he deserves, so he gives him a partial ownership interest instead. There's no reason why this isn't a legitimate way to start a brewery for a shrewd investor who knows and loves beer, but doesn't have the know-how to brew it on a commercial scale.

Anyone looking for a brewer/owner that's scouring Craiglist can't be serious. There are too many other proper venues to look for that person than Craigslist.
