So it started with an email this morning stating that my package that I shipped out had been damaged and because of that it would not be delivered. Then I got a voicemail from FedEx, they confirmed that a bottle was broken. The weird thing is they know that there is alcohol in it and the only reason they said that they didn't deliver it was because it did not have an adult signature request. They are saying that the recipient can go pick it up though to prove he's 21. It's at the Fort Worth, TX location right now. I'm wanting to approach this cautiously with FedEx, and I haven't returned their call yet, because we know that it is against their rules to ship alcohol, but they seem so nonchalant about it. The website even says it is being held at location for recipient pickup when you check the tracking number. Anybody else run into this? Did the rules change? Are they trying to set up something fishy?
Have your partner pick it up and play dumb like he doesn't know what was in the package (i.e. you're his friend that sent him a surprise for his birthday or something). It really depends which locale gets the package. This is not the first time I actually have heard of something like this, to be honest.
Happened to me when they lost, and then six? weeks later they found the package. Allowed @BRClemons to pick it up. That may be because he's a BAMF though.
I think Fedex is allowing Alcohol shipments. But you must request a signiture with the box. Here in NM Fedex just lost a court ruling for a wreck a fedex truck had a few years back, They have pay something like 154 million.
Thanks, playing dumb seems like the way to go. On a side note, I generally don't like having to sign for packages since it requires you to be there when it's delivered and most peoples' schedules don't usually allow for that. I know it's up to the trader as to how they want it delivered, but to me it seems easiest to not request a signature.
A couple weeks ago they called me and said that the box contained alcohol so they were sending it back (from FL). Told me I had 2 options for it not to be sent back. One I could create a new label with adult signature required and email it to them (guy gave me an email address) they would put the new label on and send it on it's way. Second was to have it held and let the person come pick it up and show their ID.
Just have him go pick it up. I guarantee they aren't trying to set up some kind of sting operation over a few beers in the mail. At the end of the day, FedEx and UPS know that they make millions of dollars a year by shipping "illegal" alcohol and 99% of the people there will turn a blind eye for that very reason.
This sort of happened to me on a returned box, it hit out for delivery exceptions, fedex returned the box back to me less the one broken bottle and left me a note saying "adult signature required for alcohol."
When possible, don't admit anything to FedEx on the record. They will probably try to use this against you later if you have additional problems.
play dumb. tell the guy to pick it up and use the excuse that it was a suprise wedding gift because he couldnt make it at the last second and you didnt realize it was illegal.
