    Greetings fellow beer lovers.

I'm looking for some new Weizenbock recommendations to drink at home. My present sample size is small: Aventinus - fantastic; Ayinger - very good; and Vitus - meh. I live in NYC. Thanks in advance.

Those are the only three you need, truth be told.
If you wanted to try Erdinger Pikantus, then by all means do, but my faves from what you just listed are the Vitus and the Ayinger.

You are acting like there are even other options around here.
You’re not likely to find something you’ll like more than Aventinus. Search for any Plank cans from B United to try something else. They have a Heller and Dunkler. You should be able to get them in NYC if you go to a place with good imports.

Not exactly a Weizenbock, but you could still try a Schneider Aventinus Eisbock for fun. It's a little too sweet for me, but there is a nice bump in ABV.

    Vitus meh? MEH?

I'm thinking you may have suffered old stock.

    Isn't Schneider Hopfenweisse a Weizenbock?

You've had the 3 major representatives of the style.

At this point you'll need to search around your local craft offerings. You'll want to find breweries with German theming obviously. There are a decent suburban German population not far from where I live. Catch is they are very suburban. So they are content with commerical offerings in supermarkets (namely Hofbrau and Weihenstephaner). Not a lot of bar and brewery visits to warrant a craft Weizenbock.

So it's a search. PapaGoose03 above me linked the style page. Notice the ratings falloff as soon as you leave the major German exporters. Welcome to niche style hunting, and best of luck. I ain't got nothing.

Fatheads Alpenglow is pretty good if you can find it. I don't know how the distribution is outside of the Northeast and Eastern Midwest though.

Aventinus is best in class and no one is brewing that style in NY, though I bet Threes or Wild East could do a good job. Brooklyn Brewery made a really great smoked version about 15 years ago as a one-off. Would love to see that one again. @GarrettOliver

Other Half has theirs on tap right now remaining from their Oktoberfest weekend. Gets decent reviews and I enjoyed. 3 other traditional styles on including their Festbier.

Not available to go for OP’s home consumption but I figured I’d mention anyway
