Recently I made it to the Wellington Brewery in Guelph. It has been a long time since I visited and happened to be in town the run the family to an appointment. I picked up two crowlers, (WCIPA, & and a black berry chi iPA). What I was really on the hunt for was one of each of their UVB 76 series. Last night I had Duck Dive IPA and it was descent but was thoroughly impressed DANIIL RIS. 11.9% bit went down easily with no over powering boozy flavours. Very well balanced and the apple/cinnamon was present but didn't over power the malt bill. I was able to also get YELENA AND SOFIA but ROMAN was sold out. Disappointing. I was hoping to get the full set. If anyone from Durham region has a few extra cans of ROMAN message me. The price point for some of there offerings has risen to the 4$ plus for a 473 ml cans. I have had their line up of regular's before but not a lot of the newer beers. I wish I would have bought a few more of there IPAs that were brewery exclusives now but will likely be back in the new year in Guelph and will return. What is everyone's thoughts?

    Great post!
I've only had their RIS and their upside IPA (NEIPA).

Both were pretty good. Seemed to notice some variability in their RIS, one time it was great others, I found it a bit hot.

It's a strong go to stout though. Had one last night.

Don't think I've seen any other beers in the LCBO though.

I’ve avoided the UVB 76 series the last couple years. People whose tastes I trust gave them mediocre reviews, especially in contrast to other similar beers available to me. This year, I’ve noticed those same people offer much more positive reviews. I didn’t end up ordering any, but will have it on my radar for next year.

Some of their older offerings were good when I used to drink them. Arkell’s and the RIS in particular. I can’t say I’ve had much in years though. I was curious about that cask box though.

They were one of the first breweries I remember liking when I first moved to Ontario 20+ years ago. If memory serves, they used to do the 2 litre soda bottle like GLB. Is this right?

I remember the cask ale in a box now and I am kicking myself. I love cask ale. I had a really hard time hearing the young lady at the front behind the glass and mask when I asked all the beers available. Their regular offerings are okay. They now are putting out more experimental IPAs and collaboration sours (not a sour guy though). I wondered if any other BAs had purchased the UVB 76 series and their thoughts on these and other offering's. Looking forward to trying the other two now. Didn't see any two litres. I would have defiantly picked up on of those!

This was back in the late 90s. I don’t think they’ve bottled like that in over 20 years.

I got my first UVB from them in the fridge, as with their Rising Tide Collab pack in the fridge but Wellington has consistently been one of my favorite Ontario brewers. Their core lineup holds up to this day, and I look forward to getting a Growler or 6 pack of Arkell for when I go up north. The RIS is still solid, the County Brown is one of the rare well done high malt (vs nutty) Browns in Ontario, the SPA still isn't bad and the Helles is a compromise beer for your Macro buddies who will drink Steam Whistle.

I've always found their ones offs pretty good, but that's not to say they are immune to producing lemons. Still I don't think anyone has as strong a core lineup I enjoy more then Wellington.

I'm going to have to seek out that brown ale then. Been on the look for a malty beer lately.
