Brut IPA turned into low calorie IPA.

    That's marketing folks.

I enjoy black ipas! Was happily surprised to find lots of them on my last trip to Vermont, not sure why I don't see them much around here.

Founder's version in 12 (maybe 15?) Packs showed up out here not to long ago. I still see them occasionally but usually as draft only

I had a sour ipa from Great Notion that was incredible. If done well, they can be quite delicious.

When people talk about "sour IPA" is it just a kettle sour that is heavily hopped?

I believe they won GABF silver or bronze for their black ipa. I’m not into black ipa’s but this one is very good.

Usually yes. Like a bad version of a hoppy saison.

Firestone has a black IPA I used to drink all the time back in the day. At one point Valley Bev had a huge surplus of them so they marked cases half off. I lived like a king that summer, I tell you.

I dig the mosaic also. Amalgamator, Mayberry, Boo Koo are all mosaic forward.

Speaking of Harland, I tried the Nelson at the recommendation of Bradley's and it was pretty good. I was curious and checked out the website and got a Saint Archer vibe. They sure came out of the gate well funded and polished with that expensive Del Mar tasting room.

Check next google result and learned Harland was founded by the Saint Archer guys, who also came out of the gate polished and well funded before selling to MillerCoors in short order. Aways makes me wonder if there's more to the story. But I'm probably way off base here. Good beer nonetheless.

Forgot to add - Unsung Shatter Spike is a pretty solid WC.

Isn't the owner of Harland the person/one of the people who started Saint Archer?

Blueberry Pancake, the nelson+citra hazy IPA from about a month ago, and this new coconut milkshake IPA (7%, fuck yes, not a DIPA) are/were all really good. The nelson+citra in particular might be my favorite hazy IPA from SD in the last year or more.

Yeah, I guess that's what I was trying to say.

Their new DDH citra/mosaic WC (albeit unfiltered) looks like it'd be worth a go.

I miss this style. I remember Stone 11th Anniversary (which later became Sublimely Self Righteous Ale) fondly. My brother and I nearly bought out Ramirez Liquor’s entire stock of that one. Wookey Jack was amazing. Black Rajah was another good one. The problem was that too many breweries put out a subpar product in trying to keep up with the trend. Kinda like Brut IPAs (although that style sucked and I’m glad to not see that around very often anymore).

Sour IPAs + Brut IPAs you have to go to the source.

Hudson Valley (I know, not the originator... but definitely the best) is the only sour IPA I would drink on the regular.

Social Kitchen had the best brut IPAs I've had, particularly cuz they invented it so they know what they're doing. Alas, they closed permanently before the COVID crisis

I liked a good black IPA when they were around: Stone SSR, Wookey Jack... Beachwood still makes their Hoppa Emeritus
