    Hiya folks,

I'm flying down to West Palm Beach (staying in Riviera Beach) for an interview this weekend, and will have part of Sunday, Monday, and much of Tuesday free. Anyone have recommendations for can't-miss stores, breweries, or high-quality eateries? I'll have a rental car and therefore will be mobile. Definitely planning on stopping by Funky Buddha in Boca Raton.

    thanks,
    Franimal

If you can do both I would definitely recommend both the Funky Buddha Lounge in Boca and the new Funky Buddha Brewery in Oakland Park as they have different Buddha beers on draft at each location. Also, if you're a fan of belgian beers they have some vintage De Dolle Stille Nacht and Rochefort 6/8/10 bottles on the bottle list at the lounge. Other breweries to check out would be Due South in Boynton Beach and Tequesta Brewing in Tequesta.

For a place to grab a bite to eat near the FB Brewery I enjoyed Riverside Market Cafe in Fort Lauderdale. Food was good and when I was down there they had all FL beers on tap including CCB, Tequesta, Due South, Funky Buddha, Miami Brewing Company and The Native Brewing Company. I also enjoyed Coffee District in Del Ray, you can check out what's on tap/bottle list at www.mycoffedistrict.com. For stores, Total Wine has a ton of locations in the area and will probably have a lot of what you're looking for that's distributed to Florida except for Jai Alai, which you might have better luck finding by calling up some smaller places around where you are. I couldn't find any at TW but a small shop near where I was staying (Star Wine and Spirits in Boca) happened to get a case while I was down there.

I live in West Palm Beach and here are my thoughts. A little wordy but here goes:

Riviera Beach is about a 35 minute drive each way to the Funky Buddha Lounge in Boca Raton. Morgan runs the show there and is a really knowledgeable, great guy. The Funky Buddha Brewery in Oakland Park is closer to an hour away from Riviera Beach. Don't get me wrong, you should hit both if you can I just want to make sure you know they are not right around the corner from Riviera Beach.

    Other spots I'd hit:

Barrel and Grain downtown West Palm Beach-- great gastro pub with a very nice draft beer selection including bottles to go. Their house burger there is the way to go.

There is a World of Beer and Brass Tap also downtown WPB but they are chains and disappoint me more than they impress me. They both do draft and bottles to go.

The Blind Monk also downtown WPB but off the beaten path is also a great place. It's known as a nice wine bar but has a sneaky good selection of craft beer bottles. Again, bottles to drink there and to go. Rarely do they have draft beer unfortunately.

No real good bottle shops downtown. There's the Market on Clematis but their prices are crazy high.

Fun fact about drinking downtown WPB is the open container law. As long as your beer is in a plastic cup/container (and you're not being an ass) you can walk around the streets of downtown drinking freely. Waterfront is a great place to chill and look at the big boats, Palm Beach and the intracoastal.

A little south of downtown WPB but not too far away:

BX Beer Depot. Mostly a home brew supply store, they do kegs and bottles to go. They also have about 10+ beers on draft including some really outstanding ones. Don't judge the place by the exterior. The beauty is inside and out back behind the store. The people there are some of the nicest, most down to earth, good beer people you'll find anywhere.

Due South Brewing-Boynton Beach. Probably a 15-20 minute drive from Riviera Beach. Due South is doing some really great things and are only getting better. They also sell growlers to go. Too many friendly, knowledgeable folks there to name. Keep in mind they are closed Mondays. Also they keep their current draft list constantly updated on their website.

A little further south is Coffee District in Delray Beach just off Atlantic Ave. Half coffee bar and half beer bar. 15+ beers on draft and a very nice, deep selection of bottled beer to drink there or to go. Chung (the owner I believe) and Melinda (beer slinger) are super cool beer people.

I love Riverside Market in Ft. Lauderdale as mentioned in the previous but its a hike from where you'll be in Riviera Beach. I've found the best bottle shops in Palm Beach County are Total Wine and ABC Liquors. Google them for the one closest to you.

And if you need a drinking buddy while you're in town shoot me a BM. First rounds on me. Cheers!!

I highly recommend taking the short drive up to Tequesta and hit the Tequesta Brewing Co., flew in to PBI a couple weeks ago and stopped in for few on my way up to Ft. Pierce. Great staff and locals along with some very good beer. The Pils was outstanding.

Since Barrel & Grain has been suggested i'll add this. 50 beers on tap and their happy hour is 50% off all taps which is pretty much the best you'll find. Also their food is top notch.

Sam pretty much hit everything I would think to say. But I would add Brewzzi in Boca Raton. Matt there is an incredible brewer and has some great beers on tap right now including a Double IPA and a Grodziskie (100% smoked wheat beer, 2.3%) that are both great.

So for what it's worth, none of this stuff is too far out of the way for me because my interview is actually out in Clewiston, so I'll be driving south and then west and back at least once or twice. Funky Buddha, at least in Boca, is completely on the way for this trip, so almost everything mentioned isn't so unreasonable.

Thanks for the all the responses so far, guys! This ought to take care of whatever I could want to eat and drink this weekend.
