"We’re excited to announce a new project here at West Sixth — the West Sixth County Series! For the first time ever, we’re going to release a series of small-release bottle conditioned beers celebrating the unique qualities and character of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

We plan to release around 3 different beers each year, in extremely limited quantities.

The first beer of our series is American Wild Sour Ale we’re calling Washington County. Nearly a year in the making, the base beer for this ale is a blend of berliner weisse and saison, with secondary fermentation provided by our friend Brettanomyces lambicus in a used red wine barrel. Tart, crisp, and funky, it weighs in around 7% ABV with high effervescence created during the bottle conditioning.

Being the first in our series we’ve named this wild ale after Washington County, the first county created in Kentucky after our fair Commonwealth was founded. There are only 225 750ml bottles available, and once they’re gone, they’re gone.

We’re going to release this first bottle next Monday, October 13th, at 5pm. Bottles will be $20 and we’re going to limit it to one bottle per person since supplies are so limited."

I would not miss this, if you're in Lexington.

Wow. Sounds bad ass. It's nice to see West 6th supporting the local community.

I've been waiting for that "Wow" beer from West 6th. I hope they produce one with this series. I love most of their base line releases that we get in cans.

I moved to Georgia pretty soon after I discovered them, so I only get to sample their stuff a couple times a year. Their cocoa porter hit the shelves the week I left town last time. Fortunately, a friend of mine is going to pick up a bottle for me.

Haven't heard any chatter on this lately. Anybody know when the next one in this line hits?

I've not heard anything, but I'm assuming we'll probably see the next release somewhere between January and April. Just basing that on them wanting to release 3 of these each year.

Have you had the Heller Heaven DIPA yet? You can get crowler fills, and the guy who sent me a Ghandi-Bot (in part) for it preferred the Heller by a wide margin.

    From West Sixth's Facebook:
"Check out what's coming out of Santa's bag next week! We're excited to announce the second beer in our West Sixth County Series - "Nicholas County". This beer, inspired by the holiday season, is our Christmas Ale that we've aged in a single Buffalo Trace bourbon barrel. The bourbon characteristics balance with the Christmas ale spices really nicely - only 235 bottles available, on sale next Monday (12/15) at 5pm - $15 each."

Lucky! I wasn't able to get anyone to go for me. Living in Georgia makes me miss the KY beer scene so much.
