Has anyone else tried the new batch this year? This was my most anticipated local beer out of Lexington and I have to say I'm a little disappointed. Last year's batch was very bourbon forward with tons of prototypical hot, oaky caramel/toffee found in most BBA beers. This year's has more bitter char with very little of the elegant bourbon notes, but still all of the heat. Can anyone who's tried both batches chime in? Is it just me?

I really hate to say anything negative but I have to agree a bit. This was 23 year Pappy barrels this time. I think a large amount of the issue may be that the beer only spent aprox. 7 weeks on the barrels. It could have stayed in there for 6 months and I would have gladly waited for the result.

Agree 100%. Was a tad underwhelmed. Made me wonder whether my previous affinity for it was deserved. Glad to see someone else think previous batches were better.

This is not good news... I loved it last year.

How long was in barrels the first year?

I dont know for sure, but I have to think it was longer to garner a 4.45 score here on BA. Many BA beers stay in the barrels for 6 months to a year and sometimes more.

They do have many other barrel projects in the works however.

RX at Country Boy was always better and available now!

I agree that the Rx was better.

I had Snakes last year, but do not remember it very well. I certainly enjoyed this years batch but thought the feel was a little thin. The taste and aromas were both very good. With that said Pappy 23 doesn't necessarily equate to world class.

On a side note, the CB Danger Red was great. I hope they keep the Bretts a going.
