A West Yorkshire beer has been named the best in Britain.

Timothy Taylor's Boltmaker was crowned the best beer in the country at the Great British Beer Festival in London.

The Keighley brewed real ale was judged to be the finest ahead of a host of other finalists across seven different beer categories.

The Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) competition involved bitters, ales, milds and more from small microbrewers and large regional brewers.

Timothy Taylor's head brewer Peter Eells said: "I'm speechless. We work very hard to produce great beers and we really believe this is the best beer we can brew - so to have it acknowledged in such an important competition is absolutely fantastic."

This year's silver medal went to Oakham Citra, from Peterborough, while the bronze award went to Salopian, Darwin's Origin from Shropshire.

No AK beers were involved in the judging.:wink::grinning:

Would like to see some UK BAs weigh on this one.

A lovely example of a good old fashioned bitter. One which I have rarely found, being overshadowed by its excellent big brother, Landlord.

Would love to try this. As marquis says, Landlord is an absolute go-to

The beer that came second (Oakham Citra) is also a fantastic beer

Wow, I'd love to try this. The yeast strain they use is my absolute favorite.

As many have stated that Landlord is a superb beer. Every beer I had from TT back in the day were top notch...

Interesting news- I've tried bottles of the Citra & Darwin's Origin very recently and rated them both 4/5, higher than there averages on this site. They were both very enjoyable and something I'd pick up again giving the chance.
If this Boltmaker, which I've never heard off before today is judged to be the better cousin to the Landlord it's well worth looking out for.. I've some bottles of Landlord in the fridge at the moment, just got to keep my mates hands off them!

It was called Best Bitter until fairly recently I think, it's not as good as a decent pint of LL, imo of course

On one hand it's not an "exciting" beer but on the other it's usually well made as marquis says.

It's been quite a while since I've had it though, I imagine it'll be a bit easier to get in a few pubs up here now. LL is reasonably easy to find on cask

Ironically, there WAS at least one there. Hogshead from Denver is run by a British ex-pat and I know he brought his AK with him to the GBBF. There are pictures of it on the Hogshead Facebook page.
