Westbrook killed it in taproom bottle sales Saturday. We sat at the bar and watched bottle after bottle get served and split between groups all day. I dont agree with charging that much for beer but I sure as hell cant blame them if THAT many people support the program.

THis was my first out of state release, and the trip was basically paid for since I did some work helping my brother deliver mail on the way up. I've never purchased anything crazy like a vintage beer or really paid secondary for beer. Had my brother with me (who I helped with the work dropping mail on way up..). So we both decided to buy a bottle each. He bought AB cake and I bought pappy cake to split/ share with people. That memory of being able to share beer of that caliber with my brother was well worth more than the price tag of the beer. I love that WB and some other breweries are starting to do this, and don't regret spending the money we did yesterday!

Glad you guys had a great time here in Charleston! I saw you guys and got a taste of both. I don't know which one you (the big guy) accidentally bumped into me (causing me to lose my Willett cup), but you were very generous in a pour of the AB for me. No worries, I spill my drink all of the time on my own. :grinning: Next time you are in the area, give me a shout and we'll split something nice and big!

lol i vaguely remember that now! it was me who bumped into you. things were getting a little hairy there toward the end. We wanted to go watch some college football. it also didn't help i was goin on 4 hours sleep. would have loved to stay up in Charleston for another day to sight see and check out some bottle shops. Maybe next time it wont be such a short trip.

Was anyone else hoping when you opened your allocation box that they made a mistake and gave you more then one Maple?

Sounds like the release went well! Was out of town so couldn't make it, but seems like it went about as smooth as one could have hoped for.

Any interesting variants still pouring at closing time? I may swing by early tomorrow since I was away this weekend.

Looking at their website, they updated it yesterday and still have '15 Cognac, '16 Tequila, and '15 regular MC. I wouldn't be surprised if the Maple Bourbon makes an appearance in the next few weeks during the middle of a week when no one is expecting it.

I don't know if this is true or not but I heard a lot of people saying Westbrook folks told them it wasn't even kegged at all. I find that hard to believe but I would be pretty surprised if it shows up on tap and wasnt even offered at the release.

It's actually not uncommon for them to tap things randomly that are bigger than what they tap on a release day. Which makes sense. Presumably 95% plus of the people who went to the release day were getting a bottle of all the variants, assuming that people got bottles to actually drink and not just to trade (although probably a crazy and incorrect assumption these days) then why release all the variants on tap? Save the kegs for others who missed out on the bottle release. Allow more people to enjoy your beer. That makes sense on a lot of levels and Westbrook has done that in the past. No clue about Maple Bourbon but if any was kegged (and I assume that it was) then I would expect a couple random tappings and wouldn't be surprised if one was relatively soon.

I have no doubts it will be in the tap room soon....for $125 a bottle on site

I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't kegged, I actually can't remember the Pappy Cake every being on draft, even at events they sent bottles. The Pappy and Maple should have similar yields.

I hate to say it, but Pappy way totally worth the $125 a bottle.

    And I'll probably buy it.

Good point by Vikings on the Pappy, 99% sure they had exactly 1 barrel's worth of Pappy Cake though, not sure how many barrels of Blis or whatever its called they had.

Yup... To me it was a hell of a lot more satisfying to pay $40 for 8 oz of pappy cake vs. the same price for a 1.5 oz pour of pappy 15. That oaky vanilla butterscotch finish on it just lasted forever.

Any update on when Two Claw might be canned? Tried it on tap and really enjoyed it so I'll be looking out for it.

I haven't heard anything else about it. I really hope it still gets canned. Westbrook put out an ambitious schedule earlier this year and have fallen behind, given up, or tweaked some their releases. I understand beer is not an exact science and maybe the late completion of the expansion played into it. Either way, they do have some exciting beers on the schedule for late this year.
