I didn't see a thread created for 2020. Anyone aware of BA Mexican Cake Reserva having infection issues? I'm trying to trade for one but my buddy alerted me there was infection issues. Not trying to start a rumor but I'd like to know if anyone has any info. Thanks in advance. Cheers!
I haven’t heard anything about an infection. I had one a couple of months ago with no issues. No comparison to when it was fresh but still really good.
With the beer being around for almost 4 years it seems like Westbrook was knowingly selling their own infected beer. Anybody recall seeing anything in 2016/17 about this beer being infected?
I seriously doubt Westbrook was knowingly selling infected beer, in fact majority of the reviews on Untappd seem favorable. It’s quite possible there’s an issue with a bottle or two but generally an infection would be a widespread issue, especially with a small batch.
There were some reviews of 2016 BA MC from Mar 2020 that mentioned infected bottles being bought from the brewery recently. Those reviews are now gone. From an Untapped review.. Mexican Cake (Red Wine Barrel Aged) (2016) Westbrook Brewing Co. Competing with 2013 at its peak right now (single owner 55 degree fridge stored since purchase) - spanks those infected Reservas stored at Westbrook and sold, already infected, to the public.... I was more so commenting on the fact that you were accusing a brewery of selling an infected product without any evidence, just speculation. I don't doubt someone had an issue with a bottle but when a three year old beer has a 4.79 on Untappd, it's probably safe to say the brewery wasn't intentionally selling an infected beer.
Just my experience. I splurged on a bottle with the Mrs when we were at WB in April ‘17. The bottle showed no off flavors at the time. Idk if it was kept refrigerated or they just chilled it before serving.
