I just laughed when I was at greens for kbs. They had ATG, and the BAIBB sitting on the shelf, no limits, no lines, no twitter feed, no special hoopla. You came looking, there it was. You don't know shit about it, you never found it.

Hopcity puts it on their twitter, and you get people standing in line for a ticket, to buy beer that everywhere else across town was sitting on the shelf, and had been for a few days.

People see "limited, rare, tickets, lines, be here by 5" and will buy it up to trade it, hoard it, and have no idea what it is.

100% agree. Those evil twin beers sat on the shelf for a couple of days at Green's. Hop City decides to do a ticketed release and they've got people lining up at 1 PM... it just makes things worse. Last year Hop City got 2 cases (if I remember correctly) of Mexican Cake. They tweeted it out mid-day and I was able to get a bottle on my way home at 6 PM. With last week being an example, I guarantee they do a ticketed/timed release for Mexican Cake and most stores will follow suit. :slight_frown:

I don't think anyone is a fan of hop city's ticketed releases. They just need to figure out how to make it work. Green's has had their fair share of bottle release flub's. Tower seems to do an ok job, but partly because they fly a little under the radar (though they have one of the best beer managers in the city). I for one, will be making the drive to Westbrook for both Mexican Cake releases. It is worth the drive for lunch at Kick'n Chick'n alone.

Is there any chance this is gonna be released early in May?
I'm going to be in Charleston the first couple days of May, and was really hoping the release would coincide with my family vacation.

I actually just finished reading through a 30+ page thread on cloning Hunahpu/Zhukov on hbtalk that I'm pretty sure you contributed to. Either that, or someone over there ripped off your username :-)

I'm thinking about trying to brew a big stout, but I need to rebuild my mash tun before I can brew again. Also, I friggin hate bottling.

Twas me.. I have the clone beer, it's more like a slightly bigger BA Zhukov. Around 13% and aged with some pappy van winkle.

Bottling sucks. I had kegs, but need to bottle some aged beers in kegs, so I can have more kegs to use for awesome things like berliners to I can kick in no time!

I'm in Charleston the 1st-4th. Got my fingers crossed. NC gets no Westbrook love.

I might drive to Westbrook for both releases—pretty sure I'll be able to make the July release, but not sure about this one. I'm going to be one of the bastards getting a lot of the standard, because I fucking *love* that beer. I do share all of my beer, though, so maybe you'll all hate me a little bit less.

Damn. I just had my first Mexican cake this past weekend and it was the JD barrel aged. Fantastic! I'd love to taste the AB RW and non BA versions. Definitely worth a drive to Westbrook.

Heard you have to show a SC DL to get a case of cake. :grinning:

BB SBMP was what dropped here in the ATL last week retail wise. Heard a rumor the Porter got some AB SMBP but I'd imagine its gone now.

Maybe so, but my larger point is that those beers could have been put on the shelf (or released normally) with a standard limit and it wouldn't have been a big deal. Chances are some stores would have sold out right away like you'd expect, but others would have had stock for a few days. Blasting out on social media about timed and ticketed releases drove the hype up for those beers, thus making them harder to acquire on a week where radar's were already up due to KBS.
