Westmalle dubbel bottle date

    I have always read that most euro brewers add 5 years to their bottle date. But i bought this bottle last august, i doubt it sat on the shelves for 4 years...

    I read somewhere that the tripel and dubbel have a 2 year BB as well.

    I'd say that the vast majority of European brewers' beer exported to the US have a "Best by" date based on a suggested 1 year shelf life. Yes, there are some higher abv/cellarable styles (some Belgians, like the OP beer, some UK barley wines/old ales and even MolsonCoors' bottle-conditioned Worthington White Shield) that have longer periods, but they are in the minority. OTOH, SABMiller and Guinness have shorter periods of 9 and 10 months, respectively, for some of their Euro imports.

    For those that care, I drank this yesterday. Didn't taste different at all from fresh that I could tell, waiting a while before I open the other one I have stashed.
