Is this beer available in the US yet for resale? Dont recall seeing it anywhere in Florida. Thanks for any information.
Just received a response from a Shelton Brother representative, quoted below.. "Thank you for your message. We know that the Westvleteren announcement has caused much excitement, but at this time, there is not too much information I can provide. When plans are finalized, we will let everybody know via Facebook and Twitter. For now, Shelton Brothers will only be selling Westvleteren East of the Mississippi River, and the gift packs will be priced at $85. As you may have heard, Manneken Brussels decided to no longer import the packs to the West, so the Abbey has told us they will postpone the sale until they come up with a plan for the boys on the frontier. We expect to have these available for purchase sometime late September, but there is no telling until the beer is actually in our warehouse. Feel free to follow us on our website, Facebook, and Twitter for the most up to date information. www.facebook.com/shelton.brothers twitter: @sheltonbrothers There is no reservation list for the Westvleteren gift packs, yet. We will send out information through these two channels if that changes. The packs will still have to flow through all three levels of the infamous American "three-tier system," like everything else. Unfortunately, you won't be able to purchase directly from us. We will also release any store locations expecting to receive the beer as the final date approaches. Thanks for your patience!
I keep my eye out everywhere I go but I have a feeling I won't be seeing a single pack here in the wasteland that is the Heartland. $170 sits ready though. I will have that Westy if I see it.
Anyone got any updates on this beer? Saw a liquor store in Alberta Canada is going to apparently have it next week. Alas, I'm not in Canada... http://www.sherbrookeliquor.com/trappist.html
6 bottles and 2 glasses for $85 is quite a nice deal -- relatively, of course. It's about half the going rate on eBay.
I just did a search for this in the Alberta system and came up with two listings: Westvleteren Xii - April Barrel Westvleteren Xii - May Barrel So each batch must be labeled on the gift pack if it's listed like this. We are expecting this to be released July 20th.
It's not a bad deal tbh! If you were to visit the brewery and buy a crate , it would work out at a little over $5 per bottle for the 12. If I travel over from England that cost effectively doubles for travel costs so $10 per bottle in the UK would be a fair price with the time/cost and effort in acquiring it being taken into account $85 for 6 with a glass and shipping to the US seems a pretty fair deal - they could have charged another 20-30% on top I reckon and still sold out no problems!
$85 will be a great deal if that's the actual price. In Philly, we always pay more for non-cases and I'm sure the VII will not buck that trend. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the packs get broken up and bottles are sold for $20ish each. I have seen posts to the effect that Shelton will threaten accounts that overprice with withholding their beers or something like that, but I don't think it's really in their power as an importer since it's the distributors that deal directly with stores and bars.
I need to stop wanting what you guys say is amaaaazing. yes i've had it and it was amaaaazing. but i still need to stop wanting it.
