Hello, For an upcoming gift for my father I would like to give him some Westvleteren Glasses to go along with the Westvleteren beers that I am acquiring. I'm having trouble making sense of what I am finding when googling, and I'm hoping the community can help. I've seen posts on Etsy - but I thought Etsy was for items made by the seller, rather than for reselling? Are these legit? I also found some places online, but I am just having trouble making out if they are legit, or what. I've never purchased something from Europe, so while I am sure several of the websites are legit, they are coming up as '?' for Web of Trust. If anyone has any helpful comments, I'd appreciate it. (FWIW, I'm looking for 2 preferred to 1, although I'd take 1 if there ends up being a site with only 1.) Thanks, B_E
I can speak to the Etsy part. Some vendors have "vintage" things offered for sale, not necessarily handcrafted. So, legit items out there, but like eBay, not always authentic.
Thank you very much for the reply. Maybe someone can tell me if any of these are real (and if you are familiar with ETSY, what the deal is with the "1 or 4", "1 or 3", and "2 of 4" distinctions. In all cases you can select whether you want 1 or 2 glasses, and in one you can select up to 4. They all have the same pictures and have the same description, but the prices are different??? https://www.etsy.com/listing/517842...MIuq6wzJOY1QIVBJR-Ch2Qbwo-EAQYAiABEgIfZvD_BwE https://www.etsy.com/listing/494704...MIuq6wzJOY1QIVBJR-Ch2Qbwo-EAQYAyABEgKCbvD_BwE https://www.etsy.com/listing/496183...MIuq6wzJOY1QIVBJR-Ch2Qbwo-EAQYASABEgIjEPD_BwE
Not sure if they are "legit" but they seem like a good deal and look realistic. Belgium in a Box is reputable - you're just going to pay through the nose for shipping, although you can also get some Westy: https://belgiuminabox.com/shop/trap...ch_query=westvleteren&results=21#.WXFX2DOZOt8
The Etsy ones in your first link look exactly like the ones I got in the 6 pack + 2 glasses that was sold in Ontario a few years back. If so, they are very thin glass and quite small.
I wanted to buy one at the abbey and was a little worried about it breaking on the flight back. This is a US based site and they sell them https://globalbeer.3dcartstores.com/Trappist-Ale-_c_53.html
I ordered and received three glasses(Gordon thistles not Westvleteren glasses) last week from the company Bbagby posted the link to. The glasses I got are good quality and legit as far as I can tell. They were shipped fast and well packed.
Thank you everyone for all of your comments! It looks like I have some very tough choices to make. I love this community.
I guess it's a good thing I have a pretty small cupboard in my apartment or I'd spend a crazy amount on tulips and other glassware from that site. Brugse zot tacker was pretty cheap though! Got that in my keg room.
This is the current design, unless they have changed it in the last year: https://globalbeer.3dcartstores.com/Westvleteren-New_p_190.html I think all my beer peers have left Europe, but if for some reason you can't come up with a glass, let me know and I might be able to help you out, or at least point you in the right direction. IIRC a 4-pk at the Abbey was like 16 EUR or ~$20. They will need to be well re-packed.
Back when I was relatively new to craft beer and was still accruing style-specific glassware, that was my go-to site for Belgian glasses. Here's an older/vintage design they currently have available. It's $3 cheaper than the one linked to above by @jesus_man.
I've also ordered glasses from Global Beer Network and had excellent experiences. (Those Gordon Thistle Glasses are gorgeous)
I definitely appreciate all the suggestions on here. I have not decided which to get. An amazing BA on here mentioned some St. Sixtus glasses from Box of Belgium, and combined there are just too many choices! How can one decide!
