I have to second what everyone else is saying here. Westy 12 is fantastic, but I would not pay more than $15-20 for it. The last bottle I purchased, I payed about $25 for and I still think I spent too much. Definitely trade for it or see if you can find it cheaper somewhere else.

Not worth $45. Definitely worth going to some effort to try, but I'd spend that $45 on a bunch of Rochefort 10, St. Bernardus 12, and Pannepot.

I bought a fresh 6 pack from Belgium for $124.95 with free shipping. No, I would not pay $45 for a bottle, from overseas or if I saw it on a "local" shelf.

It is an amazing beer, but not worth $45 for a single bottle. Honestly, Rochefort 10 is not much different than it, and is a lot easier to obtain. I'd trade for it.

For what it's worth this was at a bar, not a shop...

I got two bottles in trades, between shipping and buying beers I spent about $50-60 a trade and got a lot more than just two Westy 12, trading seems to be the best way to get a bottle.

Depends on the vintage - not for a fresh one.

    It's $45, not $450 or $4500.

I have no idea what kind of budget you are on. I don't think there is a right answer to this. If you really want to try it and $45 won't set you back, go for it. Could you get better beer for that $45...well, in my opinion, yes. But getting to try something new and unique has value which differs according to the person.

For those saying "trade for it"...not everyone is into trading. Just setting up a trade, getting the beers someone else wants, going to the post office or whatever and mailing it, etc...is easily going to take a couple hours of time (gas money, shipping costs, etc). If the OP isn't a trader, convenience alone is worth SOMETHING close to the ~$20 you might save to obtain it via cheaper alternatives.

$45 for 12 oz. No freaking way. I wouldn't pay that for any beer.

Actually it's only 11.2 ounces.

I would splurge on it if it is something you have been wanting to try, and you are not a "trader". Otherwise you can trade for it pretty easily. I used to hate trading so it was totally worth it to me to spend a bit extra on something. Especially if you will always wonder what is like in the future.

If you want it solely for the taste, I would get a Rochfort 10 or even St. Bernardus. They are very similar, easy to find, and both excellent.
