How is an '08 drinking at this point? Is it better fresh? Never had it before and not sure if I want to start with a 4 year old one...thanks for any info...cheers

Westy 12 is at its peak after a couple of years in the bottle. But if I was you, and that '08 was the only one I had, I'd drink it and make a ridiculous number of notes as a point of refernece for when I do get to drink it relatively fresh and at two years. You've gotta start somewhere and a 4 year old Westy would make a pretty impressive beginning.

I would try to get a fresher one and save this one. Already have 4 yrs aged on it.

I've seen a lot of things, but not a waxed crate of Westvleteren bottles. It just looks wrong.

Why is that wrong?? I put the crate away for 15-20 years. I want to make sure that the capes don't let any air on in the years!

There is a certain amount of beauty that I find when I see a bottle of Westvleteren. It is so simple and can only be defined by the caps. Nothing special about the bottle, but it somehow looks so nice. I think the bright yellow or gold wax takes away from that. That's why I said it looks "wrong".

I don't think there is actually anything wrong with waxing your bottles. I'll do it to some more of mine when I order some wine wax beads sometime this year. I'm sure it won't taste wrong when you open them. :grinning:
