Interesting quote from Bine & Vine's facebook page regarding the Bricks:

"Bine & Vine Bottle Shop I'm getting plenty, so no pre-order as of now."

BDBS said they were selling them for $110 or something ridiculous. MSRP is $85.

    Nothing like a mark-up!

From what I've read, Shelton is charging retailers $82.50. Whether that's true or not, I have no way of verifying, but expecting retailers to be okay with ~3% markup is rather optimistic, to be diplomatic about it. I understand that the Abbey set the pricing in concert with Shelton, but if that wholesale price is accurate, I'm not at all surprised that some retailers are going over $85.

I heard that as well. But I've also heard that the Abbey is requesting retailers NOT to mark it up, as the entire point of selling these bricks were for charity (or to go back to the Abbey? not sure.)

It's all kind of moot for me. I wouldn't buy this brick at 85, 75, 65...

Back to the Abbey for repairs/improvements. I can understand the Abbey's request, but at the same time - they already got whatever chunk Shelton paid them for the shipment, retailer markup doesn't change that for better or for worse. In an ideal world, retailers would respect that wish, but in an ideal world, a lot of things would be different about the beer industry. I doubt that BDBS will have any trouble moving their stock at $110, and I suppose that Shelton could punish them somehow, deny them limited releases or something, but...does Shelton really care to that degree?

now im really interested to know about the msrp vs the markup. i would assume shelton brothers will be firm with the retailers its being sold at to not mark it up, otherwise they would just give it to somebody else. and i want to know if westvleteren is really asking for no markup

Yes, it is going to charity, so they are being very very serious when they say only a tiny mark up

also not allowed to break up the packs either

Ales Unlimited in SF and Beer Revolution in Oakland will both be carrying them (and I'm pretty sure both will be selling them for the $85 MSRP).

I bought a brick last year when they first came out. ( imported )

Not worth $80. I'd pay $40 at the most now that I learned my lesson guys. The beer is good but nothing amazing.

I've got a few bottles of 12 in my fridge right now, but I'm still splitting a brick with a friend because 1) I want to support the abbey's renovations, and 2) dat glass.

You've seen the glass right? It's tiny. Not a real "chalice". It holds like 5.5oz.

i wonder if any beer nerds have just donated money to the abbey without the trimmings of a gift box. they seem in pretty dire need of money, and it makes me sad that so many people are obsessed yet no one seems to be helping them out
