So looking to try this and see what all the hype was about a while back. What is the trade value on this and are people still trading it even?

Honestly, it seems like the excitement for it has really died down. I'm not sure if it's because a majority of people by this point have tried it, or the fact that it has been distributed throughout the US now took some of the luster away from it. You can easily order it on the Euro sites now it seems all the time.

You should be able to trade for it with about $15 worth of stuff. I've seen $4$ asking $20 on the high-end before you could get it here.

Yea the excetement has died down and thats why I hope I should be able to score some. As much as I would like to try it I am not a fan of ordering online. It seems like shipping is always more than the beer itself and for just a few bottles not worth it in my eyes. Thanks ill try an ISO trying to go $4$ I guess and hopefully get a bite. Would ZD get it done or would I have to go bigger you think?

Several months ago, I traded a bottle of Parabola for Westy 12, a close $4$ trade. I paid $15-16 for my Parabola, can't remember exactly.

If you're looking for a brick in the trading market, it's probably more difficult as most people that bought it want to try some for themselves, and trade the rest.

FWIW, I traded an Abacus in 2011 for a bottle of Westy XII.

I might have 1 or some for trade. Hit me up if you're interested. Not interested in ZD though.

    agree with this

however the value may start to rise soon as the brick was a one time thing so it will be hard to get again soon

i don't think the value will rise back up again because:

    1) more people are trying it and realizing that it's really not that much better than rochefort 10 or st bernardus 12 (certainly not worth the price difference or hassle).
    2) it's available pretty regularly on the belgian sites.
    3) it's not #1 on the top 250 anymore.

i think you'd be hard pressed to find someone willing to trade a full brick, but really solid, limited distro releases like parabola should be able to land it, as posted in the thread.

to #1 - you could say the same - or more - for all kinds of beers. Pliny and Heady are much harder to trade for than similarly distributed IPA's that are rated just below it.

to #2 - yeah but shipping from Belgium is a pita and not everyone wants to put together a $200 order to make shipping worthwhile

to #3 - true but it's still very high.

ultimately I think rarity / difficulty in purchasing is the single most important factor in trade value. it's why Black Note is so much harder to trade for than BCBS despite the fact they are identical styles with identical prices and identical rankings. a glut of Westy 12 hit the US so it's "ease of purchasing" was just at it's all time high

You can buy Westy here in the States for $30 a bottle via a source on the West Coast.

Save your money and cellar and buy Rochefort 10. IMO it's is much better and so much easier to obtain.

It may have lost its whale status because of its America release but make no bones about it, it's still one legendary brew. Think about for how long they've been brewing and how long they've been top 10! I guarantee beers will come and go, but it has a permanent place in the top 10...

That being said I'd imagine the value to be more like $35-$40 per bottle of XII. Which for a 6 pack is a lot, but for one, in my opinion is nothing, and worth the try.
