While I understand that some of you here won't recognize the name, I just thought I'd let you all know we lost a friend of good beer yesterday.

Steve Moran was an MLCC product ambassador who had a hand in choosing many of the craft beers we enjoy here in Manitoba - including a boatload of the Ontario micros. He was a member of the Great White North Brewerianists and had recently attended the annual collectors convention at Niagara. Steve was a long time member of Winnipeg Brew Bombers, and if I remember correctly he was at the first meeting where the club was formed - it has since grown and prospered thanks in part to Steve's willingness to share techniques and ideas.

Steve was a master at all things fermentation, and was well known for his fall dinners where everything on the table was caught, cooked, brewed and fermented by him. I know Steve worked closely with Keep 6 to get interesting beers here to Manitoba not normally available to us.

The whole point to this is:
If you know someone who works as part of your province's liquor regulation board and they have this kind of passion for all things tasty across all categories - tell them you appreciate their hard work, give em a hug, whatever. It can't be easy banging your head against the machine everyday and those folks are a rare breed.

    Thanks for reading.

Sorry to hear about Steve and my thoughts go out to his family . I have a guy at the government store at Cambie and 8th who goes the extra mile for bringing in good beer though because he brings in things that he maybe shouldn't I don't mention him on BA by name. If you ask nicely he will bring out beers from the backroom that are not on display( ie Boundary Bay IPA and Gigantic IPA at $6.30 a bomber).
