i see there are only a few ratings out there for this one and only one review. ive always enjoyed weyerbachers bigger beers so was wondering has anyone else had it yet and what did you think? the description on this one sounds great, reviews are decent on untappd, but sort of all over the place.
I haven't found it yet but am looking forward to it. I know they can make a good BBA stout so a cocoa/vanilla one is a nice surprise.
Saw one shop post they had some yesterday or Monday in Lancaster so it's starting to make the rounds. Haven't had a chance to track any down yet though.
I have not, but it sounds good. The 13th Anniversary was a great beer, they can definitely do big stouts.
Had a draft goblet at the Railroad House in Marietta on Sunday and thought it excellent. Very good balance, oodles of flavor, and minimal alcohol taste for all the heft. Go get some!
Definitely a good beer. 12 oz pour at the brewery went down pretty quickly. The body was a little thin as compared to insanity (shared side by side with the girlfriend). $3.25 per bottle at Weyerbacher. - Joe
Just tried it. Super roasty and smokey. If you appreciate rauchbiers and smoked beers you'll likely also enjoy it.
Picked it up today in Point Pleasant and just drank a bottle. Bottled 6/22/16.Definitely a good amount (maybe to much) of roasted coffee and a nice balance of vanilla. Happy to try it fresh. Probably open the next one in 3 months or so and compare.
SMS is leaps better. This is good but I got mostly dark fruits maybe from esters. Sms was heavier on the barrel.
I got the same thing. It almost tasted like they used a Belgian yeast. Barely got any bourbon or vanilla. Super disappointing to me.
Still available as of Saturday but there was only 1 bottle in the cooler. It was also on draft so that was the option I went for. Its a little more complex than SMS in my opinion. It has a pleasant smokiness to the finish and a little bit of caramel/vanilla sweetness that isnt evident in SMS. Id love to see Weyerbacher leave this beer rest in barrels a little longer. The barrel character imparted in the beer lacks depth and nuance...but then again maybe thats because of the origin/treatment of their barrels, I dont know.
Don't know how anyone is getting roastiness. There is like zero roastiness. I'm guessing you're mistaking roast for dark fruits. I agree that its a let down after SMS. I mean bourbon cocoa vanilla? Really get none of that but possibly vanilla if you stretch for it. It won't get better. There's no barrel character like SMS.
